Prasanta Das Gupta College of Education, Burdwan was established in 2014 at Vidyanagar, West Bengal. It is a co-educational affiliated college approved by the National Council for Teacher Education and imparts professional education courses. The college has a compact campus of 0.75 acres with 107 students presently enrolled in two-degree programs. The institute also maintains a favorable student-to-teacher ratio with a faculty strength of 34 members.

The institution has several facilities that help in enriching the learning process of its students. The academic hub is the well-stocked library with a wide array of books, journals, and reference materials for education studies. The library also comprises spacious and well-lit facilities with comfortable sitting arrangements to allow students to focus on study. There is also one big multipurpose auditorium with ultra-modern audio-visual aids available in the College for various programs like lectures, seminars, and cultural events. Prasanta Das Gupta College of Education runs two regular courses: B.Ed and D.El.Ed. The sanctioned intake of seats in the B.Ed. course is 100, and in the D.El.Ed. course, it is 50; hence, a total of 150 students are admitted. Both these study programs have a duration of two years, which is representative of advanced training to be undertaken by would-be teachers and educators.

Following the admission policy of the affiliating body, the specific dates for admission may vary from year to year but are usually determined with respect to the academic calendar of West Bengal. 

The eligibility criteria for admission at Prasanta Das Gupta College of Education run according to the NCTE norms and those laid down by the affiliating university. A candidate should either have completed a bachelor's degree from a recognized university for the B.Ed program or higher secondary (10+2) qualification usually for the D.El.Ed program.

Application Process

The application process of the Prasanta Das Gupta College of Education, Burdwan is given below as a general guideline:

1. Advertisement for admission: Admission advertisement notification is given in the local newspapers and on the college site.

2. Application Form: Application forms can be obtained from the college office or downloaded from the official website.

Degree-wise Admission Procedure

B.Ed (Bachelor of Education): The two-year B.Ed program of the Prasanta Das Gupta College of Education is mainly intended for training teacher aspirants for secondary and higher secondary levels. B.Ed admissions are conducted following the affiliates' policies. The intake for this program is 100 applicants. To qualify for admission, a candidate should have a bachelor degree or equivalent degree recognized by the university.

D.El.Ed (Diploma in Elementary Education): This is a two-year D.El.Ed course which prepares students for elementary teaching. The admission process for D.El.Ed is as per the policy of the concerned affiliating body. The intake capacity of the college in this regard is 50 seats. For this course, usually, the criteria are based on completion of higher secondary (10+2) from a recognized board.

The admission policy for both programs may consider the academic record in qualifying examination, performance in the entrance test considered (if applicable), and any other criterion decided by the concerned affiliating body and in accordance to NCTE guidelines.
