The Ramgovind Polytechnic Institute, Koderma was established in 2004 as a constituent part of the Ramgovind Group of Colleges. It is approved by AICTE and is affiliated with the Jharkhand University of Technology. The college offers diploma degree courses in the field of engineering pertaining to civil, electrical, mechanical and electronics engineering. These diploma courses are 3 years long. Alongside its sister college Ramgovind Institute of Technology which offers 4-year B.Tech courses, the RPI diploma degrees provide opportunities for candidates to complete the course in a short amount of time and become employable. 

The Ramgovind Polytechnic Institute offers admission to students of all socio-economic backgrounds. Those who have achieved 35% aggregate in their 10th board examinations are eligible to apply for admission to diploma courses. The RPI facilities include separate hostels for boys and girls with mess facilities. The college also has a large library which houses more than 11,000 books and journals, and a well-equipped laboratory which maintains AMD/intel-powered computer machines. Capacitating 400 students, the Ramgovind Polytechnic Institute, Koderma offers ample opportunities for good quality education.

The Ramgovind Polytechnic Institute is situated towards the northern part of Jharkhand in Koderma. It is reached via the National Highway 20 and is at a distance of 3.4 Km from it. The nearest railway station is Koderma Town railway station which is at a distance of 7 Km from the RPI. The nearest airport is the Gaya International Airport which is situated in the neighbouring state of Bihar but is only at a distance of 114 Km compared to the Ranchi Airport, also known as Birsa Munda Airport which is more than 170 Km away.
