SHNC is an esteemed nursing college founded in 1992 & is situated in the city of Madurai of Tamil Nadu. This co-educational college affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University has been in the forefront of enlightening nursing education for more than three decades. Situated in a vast piece of land 12.65 acres, SHNC is recognised by INC in India to provide quality education and training. Currently, the college has 242 students and faculties of 16 professional teachers in offering 9 courses in four programs of nursing specialty degree.

It takes pride in owning some of the best equipments in order to improve the learning atmosphere of the students in the college. SHNC has been providing its students with different hostel facilities for both male and female students to enhance safety. For leisure, television and indoor games are made available to be used by the residents of the hostels all these in a bid to ensure that the residents lead a balanced lives. These parameters show that the college does care for the students’ health, for instance, through their annual health assessment program, and pre clinical posting which requires the students to be vaccinated against Hepatitis B. Educational facilities are equipped by SHNC library with references, national and international periodicals, magazines and newspapers.

Sacred Heart Nursing College provides a broad cross section of nursing courses for different levels of education. The institute offers 9 full time courses in Under Graduate, Post Graduate and Doctorate levels. The college offer B.Sc Nursing, which is one of the most popular courses of the college, but only has 60 intakes and the General Nursing and Midwifery course has 50 intakes. To give a glimpse of career enhancement chances, SHNC has a Post Basic B.Sc Nursing course that has twenty seats. The college also runs other M.Sc Nursing courses that include Medical Surgical Nursing, Paediatric Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing and Community Health Nursing, Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing and each course has a limited number of students that are admitted to facilitate increased student teacher ratio. For those who wish to make a difference in the area of nursing research and education, Southern college grants students a Ph.D. in Nursing.

Here in B.Sc Nursing program, after the management quota seats are filled, candidates are asked to write a common entrance test.
