SCMS College of Polytechnics at Ernakulam was originated in 2016 as a centre for technical training in the state of Kerala. This affiliated college is located in Vaikkara, Perumbavoor, and occupies an extensive five and fifteen hundred and ninety-five square meters of land to provide a conducive atmosphere to students who want to pursue engineering. The diploma education at SCMS Polytechnic has received recognition in a short time and is recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The institute has an organised section of students that is 545 in number accompanied by a dedicated and competent faculty of 29 students to students ratio which guarantees personal attention. This college provides five diploma programmes, all tailored to best suit the never constant demands in industry and technologies.
Facilities such as laboratories, computer lab, long jump and shot put tracks and other professional facilities are used in SCMS College of Polytechnics to improve students understanding. The college has its own library with inventory of about thousand four hundred and fifty two books related to the technology stream along with many technical National and international journals. Located on the ground floor, library reading hall starts from 9.00 AM to 05.00 PM in the working days and has the facility to accommodate ninety students at a time with airy and equal facilities for study. IT also has facilities with almost sixty terminals inter-connected by LAN and installed with newly licensed software at computer lab. As for the practical training, the college provides appropriate laboratory facilities for students’ practical actions in smithy, carpentry, foundry, and basic electrical works. The tools includes Lathes, Drilling Machines and Round saws has been installed in the workshop to allow the students to gain practical experience.
There are five full-time diploma courses offered in the institute, each of the total duration of three years. These programmes offer diverse engineering specialisation where students can easily develop strong bases within their area of choice. The course are Diploma in Electrical and Electronics, Automobile, Mechanical Engineering, Civil, and Computer Engineering.
The steps followed in the admission process of the SCMS College of Polytechnics are simple and more over student friendly. For the remaining 40% of the seats, polytechnic colleges in Kerala admit the students according to the marks they scored in their 10 th standard.
