Shri Guru Arjan Dev Government College is one of the opremier institutions of the state of Punjab situated in Tarn Taran and it was started in the year 1966. Being co-educational college, this institute has been imparting the education to the students for more than 50 years. Located on 13.87 acre land, the college provides a number of courses in different fields of study. In a total enrolment size of 418 and faculty of 20, it has designed its environment in a manner that foster academic achievements and human development.

Shri Guru Arjan Dev Government College has made provision for facilities that are intended to support or supplement the learning process of the students of this college. Their central features include a reading hall containing more than twenty thousand books comprising of e-resources, departmental book banks belonging to science Computer science and commerce streams. It also boasts modern IT working and educational facilities and it is always a policy to provide students with the latest technology. In as much as we have shown that the college has excellent facilities for arts and culture and good lecture theatres and class rooms, the college has well established sports facilities and a good gym for those who are inclined towards exercise. It also has a canteen, modern laboratories, a health centre equipped with first aid and an auditorium with a carrying capacity of five hundred students used for both curricular and co-curricular activities.

Shri Guru Arjan Dev Government College provides a broader range of programmes that includes 10 full time programmes spread over 7 degrees. It offers the course across a wide range of disciplines including Computer Applications, Sciences, Commerce, and Arts etc. The students can do the undergraduate programmmes such as BCA, B.Sc Computer Science, B.Sc Medical, B.Sc Non-Medical, B.Com, B.Sc Economics and BA. As for postgraduate students, the college provides education in the Master of Science in Computer science programme. Also, diploma course are offered such as diploma in computer application and post graduate diploma in computer applications (PGDCA) to meet the range of educational requirement of learners and employment opportunities.

In the Shri Guru Arjan Dev Government College, admission to this college is done base on merit and the ability of each student to be accepted in the college. The institution to this effect provides books for needy, deserving, meritorious, underprivileged students through departmental book banks. The college also has an Alumni Association and it serves as an important channel for advising students and nurturing the college.
