Sree Sankara Vidyapeetom College, Perumbavoor, which was started in 1967, is a self financing college affiliated with the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. This co-educational college is in Kerala and is spread over about 18.03 acres of land and has been NAAC accredited ‘A’ grade. It provides 18 courses across 7 degrees and has 1079 students in total, and 53 faculty members. According to NIRF 2024 college ranking, SSV College has come out in the band of 201-300. A vast percentage of the students in the institution is female with 55% in the undergraduate programmes and 76% in the postgraduate programmes all from within the state.
Sree Sankara Vidyapeetom College avails several amenities in helping the students in their learning activities. These include well equipped laboratories for science subjects, computer and language laboratory for effective communication. A fully automated and INFLIBNET connected library contains the largest collection of reference books. Extra-curricular facilities include sports which include basketball practice nets and badminton. The campus also includes an air conditioned seminar hall, an open theatre and internet connections in important areas.
The courses offered by SSV College include all universities undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The institution offers 18 courses, some of the most demanded are BA in History, Economics, English, B.Sc Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science. In postgraduate level, students can opt for five courses namely Master of Commerce in Finance and Taxation, Master of Arts in History, Master of Science in Chemistry & Computer Science. Like many other institutions in Kerala, the admission to this college is largely based on merit. The college offers admission to diverse undergraduate and postgraduate courses for which it has set admission capacities per course. BA History was offered 40 seats, and B.Sc Physics had only 20 seats of students. There are several ways within the institution in which students with inadequate financial resources are offered scholarships. Among these are seventeen institutionalised subject-area scholarships and bursaries funded by former staff members and friends. Other scholarships include Sreemath Sankaracharya Vidyanidhi and K.N. Kuttan Namboodiripad Endownment. Students can also avail state and central scholarships like Post-Matrix scholarships, DCE scholarships, Snehapoorvam Scholarships and Minority welfare Scholarships, Youth Centrity Scholarships etc.
