St. Stephen’s College, Pathanapuram, also known as Pathanapuram St. Stephen’s College was founded in 1964 under the diocean jurisdiction of Trivandrum with the permission of the Kerala Legislative assembly and it is situated in Kollam, Kerala. This affiliated college which is NAAC recognised college provides a wide number of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Nestled over 52 acres of area, the college has total enrolment of 985 students of different courses where as faculty members consists of 46 members. St. Stephen’s offers 15 courses in 5 degrees/programmes within such areas of specialisation as Mathematics, Physics, Botany, Zoology, and English Language & Literature. The college has got almost equal balance of intake with 65% intake of female students in Undergraduate and 87% in postgraduate courses.

It is envisaged by St. Stephen’s College that students should have excellent facilities in their college for the improvement of their academical and wholesome development. The campus also has a health care station that can attend to all the basic first aid needs for the students. For targeted interest such as the fitness doers, the college houses a gymnasium exclusively for students, members of staff and faculty. The 300 sq meters central library fosters academic life by providing books, journals, references student handbooks for undergraduate postgraduate, and research works. These are specially designated reading area, reference section, magazines and newspaper section and a digital library also form part of compendium. Sports facilities address each of the interest in athletes and ensures that sufficient balance between academic work and sports is achieved. The college also has well equipped modern IT facilities so that the students can study using updated technology.

In terms of the programmes St. Stephen’s College provides complex academic opportunities – 11 undergraduate courses, 5 postgraduate courses and 2 doctoral programmes. The college provides mainly full time programmes and the total sanctioned strength for all programmes is 985 students. The courses offered allow students to foster their interests sharpen and meet their career goals from sciences to humanities. The courses are B.Sc Botany, Physics, Mathematics, PhD Zoology, BA Economics, and so on. 

The admission system at St. Stephen’s College starts mainly through the online admission system of the University of Kerala. It also minimises a case of winner being favoured through the compromise of meritocracy in selection process. For instance, while application for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are usually during May-June every year. Aspirants who want to join the university are supposed to undergo several rounds of allotment organised by the university. In cases of undergraduate programmes, the candidate who seeks to join an institution must have passed class 12 and for postgraduate programmes it considers the results of the corresponding bachelor’s degree. Scholarship also is provided since the institution is also compassionate with deserving students in their educational endeavors.
