St Teresa’s Teacher Training Institute is the sole standalone institution in Kottayam, Kerala, that is geared towards offering the future of Education. Originally founded in 1919, this highly regarded school has been preparing potential educators for more than ninety years. Located on a modest 5-acre plot of land, the institute is exclusively for the female students to promote women education in Kerala. With National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) recognition, St Teresa’s continues to provide quality education for teachers in training.
St Teresa’s Teacher Training Institute has a variety of facilities that can improve the learning process of the students studying at the given institute. A good library is an accumulation of knowledge; besides, necessary infrastructure includes sport facilities for healthy living and teamwork. It holds different events and seminars, organising a committee for the perception of intellectual and cultural events. Departmental laboratories are important for the student teacher since they get practical sessions that prepare them for teaching. This institute also adapts to the welfare of their students, where there is a health centre that provides first aid. Modern cultivation of IT helps students be knowledgeable about the existing technologies in their learning process. A canteen fulfils the self-serving needs of food services for the staff and students; the girls' hostel provides housing services for those who need them.
St Teresa's Teacher Training Institute currently offers one primary course, the Diploma in Elementary Education, or D.El.Ed, for the prospective elementary school teachers. This programme is offered as a full-time programme and will take the student two years to complete and will allow him or her to teach at the elementary level. The institute has the approved capacity of 50 students for this course, which shows that the institute still intends to deliver quality education by offering a limited number of intakes and seats. Having 43 students, including three faculty members, the institute guarantees close attention and individual care for all potential teachers.
