Thomas Jones Synod College, Jowai (TJSC) is an affiliated college that was set up in the year 1997 in Jowai, Meghalaya. The college is situated in the West Jaintia Hills District and accommodates an area of 12.5 acres. TJSC is NAAC accredited, and the university offers various types of undergraduate programmes. Total enrolment for the college is 1221 and faculty strength is thirty-eight, so the college provides quality education with a student-faculty ratio of sixteen to one. The institute provides 13 courses for three degree offers that come under arts, commerce, and science areas. TJSC is privileged to have enrolled both female and male students, with a percentage distribution of female students at 63% and male students at 37%, with all students enrolled in full-time undergraduate programmes.

The college is responsive for creating a system that will support students’ academic development and their overall needs by offering different learning facilities. The library is located on the top floor of the college building, occupying a hall area of 3,594 square meters, 5,000 books, and bound periodicals from national journals to online resources. It has a generous reading area that has the capacity to contain one hundred twenty students. TJSC also includes an internet service provider for Wi-Fi on campus, as students use laptops, tablets, and other gadgets for research about the subjects. For effective practical learning in the different disciplines, the college boasts of functional and professionally equipped laboratories. The ludic needs of students are fulfilled at TJSC due to its availability of sports sections and a gym. The campus also comprises different hostels for boys and girls of different institutions in order to support the outstation students. Other facilities include a dining hall, an infirmary that hosts first aid services, a hall for conducting meetings and other activities [auditorium], and a shop for purchasing personal and related needs.

In total, Thomas Jones Synod College provides students with 13 undergraduate programmes that are closely filled with full-time educational studies. In arts, commerce, and science streams, the college offers many choices to its students. Arts stream for the students provides an opportunity to enrol for honours degrees in English, Khasi Language, Education, History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics. The Commerce stream presents B.Com. with specialisation in Accounting and Finance. The Science stream has honours programmes in Physics, Chemistry, both Botany and Zoology, as well as Mathematics. These differentiated opportunities are relevant to the students’ various academic concerns and future occupations.
