The university aims to ensure a maximum number of students get placed every year. The varsity has a dedicated placement cell. The placement is responsible for conducting GU placement drive at the campus. Various reputed companies from private and public sectors are invited to take part in the placement drives. The university placement cell also provides assistance to students. Gauhati University placement cell provides career counselling to students and helps them in choosing the right career path as per their abilities. The students who wish to take part in the placement drives need to register themselves with the placement cell.
As per GU placement report (NIRF) 2019-20, both UG and PG students got placed. 111 students from UG 3 year programmes were eligible for placements. Out of 111 students, 48 students got jobs and 52 students decided to study further. At GU placements 2019-20, the maximum number of students (379) from PG 2 year programmes got placed at public and private sectors.
