72 MonthsThe Mathematics area offers PhD degrees in both Applied and Pure Mathematics. The area of research under Applied Mathematics contains numerical wave modeling and probabilistic wave modeling which is a part of Atmospheric Science, Chaos and synchronization which comes under the nonlinear dynamics, Computational fluid dynamics and heat and mass transfer. The department also offers research under some interdisciplinary topics like stochastic processes, neural networks and financial mathematics. The area of research under Pure Mathematics contains Geometry and Differential Topology.
Ph.D. programme shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum of six years. Extension beyond the above limits will be governed by the relevant clauses as stipulated in the Statute/Ordinance of the individual Institution concerned.
Eligibility Criteria
- A master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the master’s degree, by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed)
Or - An equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognised or authorised by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
Admission Details
- Admission to PhD programmes shall be according to a merit list based on a written entrance test of 70% weight followed by a Research Interaction of 30% weight.
- Applicants who have qualified for fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/UGC- CSIR/NET/GATE/CAT/CEED and similar National level tests as well as those who are employed at the level of Assistant Professor or higher in educational institutes in India will be exempt from the entrance exam.
