College Infrastructure
The University infrastructure is definitely very well maintained. The new buildings Baker, Derozio and Netaji Subhash are fully modern. ACs have been provided to a few départements. Chemistry department being one of them. The old Presidency Building is also well maintained although the lack of AC gives rise to a few complaints especially during the summers. Smart boards are provided to every department. Food in the canteen is made following strictest hygiene. Lack of hostel rooms is an issue.
Academics
I am currently studying Chemistry hons. due to my love for the subject and Presidency's long standing history of providing gifted chemists. Our university boasts of having the oldest chemistry department in the country. Although the quality of teaching has fallen a bit over the years but the standards are still way higher than many a college's. Our HOD believes in practical knowledge before theoretical so we get enough lab time. Making us well equipped for the future.
Placements
The Placement Cell has been defunct for a while now. Although Presidency University has a great repute among colleges, it isn't enough to attract big companies. Most students look to pursue master's in IITs.
Value-for-money
Being a Government college. Value for money is the biggest plus of Presidency University. Even the students coming from the poorest of families can pay the fees very comfortably. Such quality of education at this low cost is what other Universities should also strive for.
Campus Life
The beauty of college campus is known to whole city. As evening comes, music and songs fill the air of Presidency. Table Tennis, Badminton, Carrom, all kinds of sports keep the students busy. Although most students are very helpful, some stick out like a sour thumb. The location just by the medical college makes it a very safe place to be. It's located at the world's largest second hand book market so books are always found nearby.
Anything Else
I am in my first year in this college, and I have seen the most major event of Presi that is the Student Union Elections. My stay at Presi has been very pleasant. This University has helped me find my love for Table Tennis. Taught me to compassionate and taught me that the educated need to think more about world politics. The Three Ps of Presidency are Prem, Porasuna, Politics(Love, studies, politics) and till now I have been able to do all simultaneously :)

Presidency University is an iconic institution that many vie for. Even with disputes regarding the administration and bureaucratic processes for many basic things the education gained here is invaluable. It is however more suited for those looking to stick to academics as a career or those who want a true education in their respective fields and not those looking for a training-experience for finding a job. However things are changing with new exchange programmes, new workshops etc coming in which gives the hope for the college to restore its lost glory

In the three years' undergraduate course work I've come closer to the sole of Presidency University in Kolkata. In a nutshell, It's an institution of academic excellence, a fine tuning of heritage and modern technology, a platform to build up the moral ethics of life. Many excellent faculty members are there who are ready to help students as far as possible. Nowadays library facility is awesome, computer facility and wifi connections are available. But being a student of science stream, I personally feel that there are many scopes for development in laboratory facilities like chemicals and instruments. For both academics and research purpose, NMR, IR, different optical spectroscopic tools like LASER facility, TCSPC and many other tools and techniques are essential to install properly. Buildings can provide enough spaces for that. Many departmental seminars can be organized, different presentation sections can be arranged in each departments to know essentially the exact situation where we belong now and standing on this timepoint what problems can be addressed in different fields. Different seminars, national and international symposiums, and active participation from students as well as faculty can enrich this institution. Funding can be an issue and it immediately needs to be solved. Moreover, regular fests are organised. Cultural events are of high quality and a wonderful coexistence of eastern and western cultural diversities are there. Another big advantage is that anyone from poor financial background can excel in and hardly face any issue to study. Overall, i enjoyed a lot with my wonderful friends, juniors, seniors and professors in these three years. Presidency has gifted me a wonderful privileged three years' experience, taught me the chemistry and philosophy of life. I simply love this institution.

The education structure is very old and stereotyped. Teachers are useless and prefer students who become close with them. Science does not include the application of intelligence. To score, you need to remember useless theories. And faculties think marks are the money of their own pocket, so the don't tend to give marks. It is very harmful to a student's career. I am telling the situation when I studied. After that the college became autonomous. So, maybe the situation has changed now but still how much a rotten system can change.

Presidency College had offered me the best ambience, faculty and spirit that are required for a degree course. It allows its students to free their mind, question the norm and makes them aspire for higher goals in life. The campus has good infrastructure and a very friendly as well as a cosmopolitan environment. Though the college makes headlines for its student politics, it is where young minds learn about the world as well. It is well known for its academic achievements and is a premier institution of India.

I joined Presidency when it was still called Presidency College and not a university! Fondly Presi to most of us was a place where our wildest imaginations would get a stage to perform. It was a place which encouraged everyone to bring out their true potential in whichever way they could. This place did not judge people on the basis of performance in examinations, but valued and appreciated knowledge and good conversations. More than becoming a place of awe to us with its nearly 200 years of magnificent history, Presi was our second home. Apart from scholarly discourses, my college was a breeding ground for healthy political contesting and performing arts. Last but by no means the least, all of this was mostly possible because of the amazing faculty we had. Inspiring visionaries, who not only guided us, but gave us the right to disagree to them. While most of my memories of college days are those of nostalgic fondness; yet I cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that the Presi where I studied and the Presidency University that stands now are not the same...

Presidency is always a class apart. The faculty engages with the students like friends. But certain infrastructure needs to be repaired. It awesome to study In Presidency as it has its own history. The libraries acts as window to an entirely enchanted kingdom.Ancient books are only to be found in Presidency library !

"I study in Presidency College, in the physics department. 1)Infrastructure- The building is age old, about a century or more, and due to years of negligence is in many parts in a dilapidated state. Although in our department the class rooms are quite big, but the acoustics of those rooms are quite poor. Also most rooms do not have speakers and projectors. The laboratory, which is an integral part of any physics department, is also in somewhat bad condition, with old, functioning instruments. 2)Faculty- The faculty makes up for all the bad things concerning the infrastructures. They are very good teachers, who are always willing to walk that extra mile for us. They are always available to answere our querries outside the class, and are also quite friendly with us. They guide us both in academic and non-academic pursuits. We can be very free to them and can learn good physics in the process. Also we have weekly seminars on different topics of physics, given by various eminent scholars, which is indeed an enlightening experience for us. 3)Placement- As our department is based on pure science, the placement scope is naturally low, and it has nothing to do with the college or the department itself. But, in the departments in which placements are feasible, like Statistics or economics, the placement is considerably good. 4)Canteens-We have not a huge campus, but within that we have 4 canteens. The quality of the canteens vary, but are in general somewhat fine. Food is available at them at a reasonable cost, well in 3 of them at least. The canteen service and food quality are good. 5)Library- We have a central library, an Arts library and eeach department has its own Library. The combined collectin of books in them is actuyally a treasure trove of books. But the system to access the books is not good. The system is set in such a manner that finding books is a quite difficult job, and the whole process of borrowing books is equally complicated. 6)Sports facilities- The facilities are not great, as due to lack of space we do no have a swimming pool, only one big ground and a table tennis board. In the ground sports events are held throught the year almost. Apart from these, there is an active group of people who play chess, and card games like bridge, Uno. 7)College environment- Though riddled with political instabilities, it does not in any way hamper the studying environment of the college. In general the environment is quite friendly, with an excellent bunch of seniors. We, in our department have never faced ragging, amounting to even an ounce. The seniors have been extremely helpful to us."
