Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Institute of Engineering and Technology, Pragatinagar: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Institute of Engineering and Technology (ABVGIET) was set up in the year 2011 is located at Pragatinagar, Distt Bilaspur Himachal Pradesh. This is a government aided college affiliated to GTU and approved by AICTE with separate faculties offering several engineering courses spread across a magnificent campus of 76.49 Acer. ABVGIET has a total student intake of 653 and a faculty strength is 28. It offers 10 programs present in 2 programmes: B.Tech and Diploma programmes in engineering branches like Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Mechanical Civil and Electrical.

Thus, ABVGIET aims at giving quality education to students with an affordable cost of obtaining education. The campus is well endowed with laboratory facilities; In terms of technology, the school has 6 computerized Internet enabled laboratories. The institute has its library in addition to textbooks, reference books, journals, etc., that are frequently used by students and faculty members. For all-round growth ABVGIET provides the indoor and outdoor games facilities in creaker cricket, football, volley ball, basket ball, athletic meet etc., with full time coaches. There is also a provision for a health center with treatment of first aid for students in the campus.

The institute provides a total of ten courses which are divided evenly between B.Tech the courses offered are 5 and Diploma courses are 5 more the programs offered by the institute are full time only. The B.Tech programs take 4 years while the Diploma programs have been provided with 3 years duration only. Two sets of B.Tech program have been enrolled with 48 student capacity each and the Diploma programs have 30 to 60 seat provision. Total student intake in the cross-section of all the courses is 653, which is evidence of the institute’s determination as regards the ideal student-faculty ratio.

The admission procedure in the ABVGIET is very much fair and they don’t foul play students while selecting them. In the case of B.Tech programs, the chances of students depend on how well they perform on national or state level entrance exams; however, details of the exam are missing. Special consideration may apply to diploma intake. The institute provide the facility of girls hostel having total 40 seats which ensure proper accommodation and safety for the female students. This hostel has been furnished with modern facilities and security such as Close Circuit Television –CCTV cameras, home guards. ABVGIET also has a functional alumni association which also conducts meets and programs to maintain student contact. However, for the actual scholarship funds, the details are unknown, and are most probably requisite when attending the institute, as it is run by the government, a list of the available financial assistantships should be availed to the deserving student.
