Avvaiyar Government College for Women, Karaikal, (AGCW KARAICAL) is a reputed college was set up in the year of 1972. Situated in Karaikal, Puducherry this affiliated college is a NAAC accredited college. The campus consists of area of 5.98 acres and has the enrolment of 1,473 students to provide a number of diversified programs. Caters arts, science and commerce faculty with 38 faculty members, offers 7 programs in 5 degrees with major concentration on arts, science, and commerce streams at AGCW Karaikal. The college boasts of having the student’s female only to enhance the education of women and girl child.
Avvaiyar Government College for Women, Karaikal has well equipped range of infrastructural facilities that would help the students to learn better. The college has a library with a two-storied building of 5000 sq feet including over 35000 books and competitive exam materials. That is why the educational institution includes an individual air-conditioned Network resource centre where students and staff can work with e-materials. It has good number of laboratory for practical, an auditorium for all kind of events and seminars, good IT facilities etc. To enhance students’ convenience, College has canteen facility, provision store for stations and photocopying, and banking. There is a first aid facility for emergencies and the company has enough parking space to contain 500 vehicles at a go.
The college in total has 7 courses; these comprise both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. At the undergraduate level, students can continue with full set of normal five year courses including BA, B.Sc, B.Com, and B.Com Corporate Secretaryship. These are full time programmes, which include; Master of Arts in Language and Literature, Master of Arts in History, and Master of Science in Plant Science. The undergraduate programmes take 3 years while the postgraduate programmes take 2 years.
Admission policy of the AGCW Karaikal is merit base and follows the government of Puducherry reservation policy. All the undergraduate programmes such as BA and B.Sc, amongst others, are advertised open for application, and the selection made purely on merit. Undergraduate admission, the college admits the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) for students who wish to study at the college. For postgraduate degree programmes there are three options: based on merit, the scores obtained in common admission tests or by the merit, entrance tests and interviews where applicable depending on the programme.
