The Bahauddin Science College predates the formation of the state of Gujarat where it is located in, having in fact been established well before independence. The ruling family of the Princely State of Junagadh had a role to play in its formation in 1901. The college was initially into the arts and science fields. Biology and Mathematics were important fields of study here right from the beginning. The science faculty separated from the main university in the year 1983 when it formed a separate college. The main course run here now is the BSc. General, but other specialized courses are also available. The courses here are affiliated to the Saurashtra University.
The faculty members here are highly qualified. Most have been drawn from the state level faculty recruitment exam. Most have even qualified for national level exams such as the NET (National Eligibility Test). Due to this high focus on academics, the alumni list is now very strong. The alumni from this college have now reached the top echelons in different industries as well as in government. Writers and scientists have also originated from here, and now contributing to the intellectual growth of society. The science laboratory here is particularly impressive. It houses state- of- the- art equipment for the academic and research areas in physics, chemistry, mathematics, botany, zoology and forensic sciences. The college was in fact, one of the first in India to come up with its degree programme in forensic sciences. Equipment such as the spectrophotometer, soxhlets, viscometer, tensile tester and microscopes are well- stocked here.
The Bahauddin College of Science in Junagadh has also paid a lot of importance to the broader social good. This is the reason that students studying here have participated in several central and state government schemes. Participation has been in the schemes such as the NSS (National Service Scheme), NCC (National Cadet Corps), Saptadhara and Vanche Gujarat. Beyond study and other serious matters, the student life is also one of fun and games here. A lot of activities are possible in the beautiful campus.
