The Bharati Vidyapeeth (BVP) runs a group of institutions spread in different cities, and spanning a diverse range of academic areas. The first campus was begun in the city of Pune, in Maharashtra state. This was back in 1964, started by the renowned academician Shri Patangrao Kadam. Since then, the group has expanded to add more campuses in Pune itself, plus others in different parts of Maharashtra in the cities of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Kolhapur, Sangli, Karad, Panchganj and in Satara. There is also a campus in New Delhi. And there is an international campus in Dubai, which is in the UAE (United Arab Emirates). The year 1996 saw the Bharati Vidyapeeth being recognized as a Deemed University by the UGC (University Grants Commission).
At present, the group trains students for courses on – Agriculture, Medicine, Dentistry, Ayurveda, Nursing, Engineering, Pharmacy, Management, Environment Science, Catering Technology, Homeopathy and Hotel Management, besides a few more areas. This equals a total of seventy- eight schools and sixty institutes dealing with higher educations. A few of these are also into professional courses. Some schools at the K- 12 level are also operated by the group in Maharashtra.
The Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Pharmacy is located in the city of Kolhapur, in Maharashtra. It was established in the year 1996. It is located in the Chitranagari locality. Courses are offered here right from the UG toll doctoral levels. At the undergrad level, the four- year B. Pharm. is considered the primary course. Here at the Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Pharmacy Kolhapur (BVCPK), this course can also be enrolled for on lateral entry basis. The B, Pharm. may be pursued in either of the four options available here. These are in- Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology and in Pharmacognosy.
At the master’s level, the programmes are more specific and research- oriented. So, the M. Pharm. can be taken up in three different specializations, which are for Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and in Quality Assurance. Doctoral programmes may also be pursued here. These may be taken up from either the Bharati Vidyapeeth University from Pune or the Shivaji University, also from Kolhapur. The entire academics at the BVCPK is run by a cohort of departments, each with expertise in its own area. There are these departments for each of the academic areas at both the bachelors as well as master’s level.
Research is another important area at the BVCPK. A National Symposium was held titled Frontiers in Drug Discovery & Process Research (FDDPR) in collaboration with the Shivaji University. A magazine has also been published titled the Scientific Souvenir. Another internal publication is the newsletter e- Pharma Rhythm. The college also provides external services to those requiring in Instrumental and Analytical Services. All this and much more has led to highly desirable rankings across platforms. The NIRF (National Institutional Rankings Framework) has proclaimed the BVCPK as the 25th best college in the country, within the pharmacy category.
The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. Public transport, convenience stores and banks with ATM facilities are all accessible from the campus. There is a sports field where outdoor sports may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. The campus is Wi- Fi enabled. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes.
There is a thriving student life on campus with several activities. Cultural activities are quite popular here. The campus placements have likewise gone good in recent years.
