BITTI Pallom admission system is merit-based. It selects candidates based upon their performance in entrance tests or qualifying examinations, or any other mode specified by the state government for selection of candidates in accordance with its excellence standards in elementary school teachers' production.
BITTI Pallom admissions usually is consistent with the academic year, such that the school calendar falls between the end of July through August/ September. Though different at times, in principle, potential candidates should expect preparing applications around July and August leading up to an academic calendar. The first criteria for eligibility that must be satisfied to apply to Buchanan Institutions Teachers Training Institute, Pallom D.El.Ed programme are clearing the 10+2 or equivalent exam from a recognised board. Since it only takes women students, this becomes the one additional eligibility condition for all applicants.

BITTI Pallom offers a two-year full-time D.El.Ed course. This is the only course available so far in this institute, giving an insight into the focused approach of training on teacher education. The programme is focused to prepare students to be professionally able elementary school teachers. BITTI Pallom admission into the D.El.Ed course follows the merit basis of the marks secured in the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination as per the policy of Kerala government. The approved intake for this course is 50 students.
