The BLDE Association’s Law College is located in the town of Jamkhandi, which lies in the state of Karnataka. It is named after the Bijapur Lingayat District Educational Association. This was started back in 1910 by Dr. P.G. Halakatti. It was later promoted during the 1960s by the arch educationist Shri B.M. Patil, whose son is the present president. A total of nearly seventy institutions are run right from the primary school till higher education levels. Academic areas are covered from right across the spectrum including business, engineering, medical, science, arts, commerce, education and of course law. It even runs a few polytechnics to propagate vocational education. The Sri Siddeshwara Urban Cooperative Bank was also begun by the BLDE Association.
The Jamkhandi- based BLDE Association’s Law College is spread over forty acres of land. It is affiliated to the Karnataka State Law University (KSLU), based in Hubli. This programme may be pursued under both the five- year as well as the three- year modes. The former may be pursued immediately after school, while for the latter, a minimum of graduation is needed. The five- year programme is an integrated BA plus LLB programme, but the latter is a stand- alone one. The LLB of course is the standard degree offered to Common Law countries’ legal study graduates.
The campus has much to offer. There is a sports field where outdoor games may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. An important aspect of law college life is the moot court contests. For this a separate hall has been curated, replete with all real court room paraphernalia. This then resembles the closest to the real model. There are adequate internet facilities on campus.
