College of Teacher Education, Muvattupuzha, was set up in 1992 as a constituent college with the mission to build the future of education. This one-year preparatory course is a co-educational institution situated in Ernakulam District, Kerala, India, and administered under the Centre for Professional and Advanced Studies, Kottayam. Stretched over a nearly 2.15-acre area, the college is recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education – NCTE for fulfilling its commitment to the cause of teacher education. At the current population of 99 students and 12 faculty members, the college keeps the class sizes small and focused, which aids in the delivery of particular attention to students.

The College of Teacher Education is affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. The College of Teacher Education has various amenities to ensure the students get value-added facilities during their learning process. The campus is well endowed with a library to meet the students’ needs of access to educational materials and literature. The college of engineering has a facility of enabling departmental-based laboratories for practical training to enable students to acquire practical experience in their area of speciality. We also have an auditorium here which is used for seminars, workshops and cultural activities which form part of the academic year. 

There is provision for the installation of sports grounds and sports schools necessary for the physical development of students and for their teamwork. A canteen is required to provide both staff and students with the products that are acceptable to their requirements to support the community ambiance within the campus. The college also adopts student’s health with a health section that has first aid amenities. Also, it has acquired the best IT facilities, and its focus has covered all of the relevant technologies in the educational field for the students.

In as much as programmes offered by Muvattupuzha’s College of Teacher Education will address these issues, its flagship programme is to produce quality teachers. Existing as an institution of higher learning, the college only has one full-time course – Bachelor of Education (B.Ed programme). The B.Ed course allows preparing teachers for professional practice and for teaching in schools, colleges and universities or for carrying out profession-orientated research.

However, the admission to the College of Teacher Education, Muvattupuzha, is made under the direction of the Centre for Professional & Advanced Studies, Kottayam. Applicants are expected to forward their application by the given time only. After the closing of the application period, the college-related processes the applications it received, and a merit-ranked list is produced. Out of them, those who meet some pre-set criteria are called for an interview. The admittance is usually made at the end of a particular semester or session depending on merit as well as communal reservation.
