About CVAS Bikaner

The College of Veterinary and Animal science, Bikaner, also known as CVAS Bikaner, was started in 1954. It is a constituent college at Bikaner, Rajasthan, that has been approved by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The college occupies a relatively large piece of land of 494.211 acres, providing a suitable learning environment for veterinary education. The college has a total student strength of 639 enrolled students and a faculty of 45 It offers 33 courses at four degrees and offers a specialised programme in animal husbandry and veterinary science.

CVAS Bikaner has good infrastructure to aid all its academic courses. The college provides six hostels for boys and one for girls with all requirements, like common room, visitors room, games facility, etc. Currently the library has over 37,000 text minimum basic stock that comprises of textbooks, reference books and journals. The college also have well-equipped practical laboratory for the training of the students. But for any co-curricular activities, there is availability of the auditoriums, cafeteria, play grounds for various games, and gymnasium. First aid facilities in a health centre complement the health of students in order to enable them to learn effectively.

The college teaches a variety of programmes, such as diploma in animal husbandry, Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H), masters programmes (M.V.Sc. ) and doctorate programs (Ph.D.) in various areas of veterinary science. The B.V.Sc. & A.H programme is the main course offered with a capacity of 80 students and Diploma in Animal Husbandry takes 50 students every year. The M.V.Sc. programmes include wide-ranging specialisations like Animal Biotechnology, Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Veterinary Pathology and among others offered by universities and taking different capacities at a time.

As mentioned earlier, CVAS Bikaner does offer admission to different courses under a competitive merit basis system. For B.V.Sc. & A.H programme, admission is given only through an entrance examination for a number of seats available in the college. The Diploma in Animal Husbandry programme takes into account the merit based on the marks obtained in the Senior Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent examination having the specified standard, subjects prayed. In the case of postgraduate and doctoral programmes, the candidate is interviewed by a committee constituted by the Dean of the College and prepares merit list position for admission in each subject.

CVAS Bikaner Admission

College of Veterinary and Animal Science, Bikaner (CVAS Bikaner), is a prestigious institution offering specialized programs in animal husbandry and veterinary science. The college is recognized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), which conducts a strenuous selection process for entries into various programs designed to attract only the best candidates.  The admission process for CVAS Bikaner usually starts in August-September with the current academic year under discussion. This, in turn, offers numerous degree programs including Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.), Diploma in Animal Husbandry, Master of Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.), and Doctorate of various specializations in veterinary science. 

For the undergraduate admissions, a competitive entrance examination is conducted by CVAS Bikaner. Admission to that program is entirely based upon merit as per the performance of the candidate at the entrance examination, without any other consideration for merit or weightage whatsoever.  For the postgraduate (M.V.Sc.) program and doctoral (Ph.D.) program, an interview is conducted for all eligible candidates. The merit list for admission in each subject is then prepared by a committee constituted by the Dean of College on the basis of the performance in the interview.

Application Process

The application process for CVAS Bikaner varies depending on the program:

For B.V.Sc. & A.H.:

  1. Candidates must apply for and appear in the competitive entrance examination.
  2. Based on the entrance exam results, a merit list is prepared.
  3. Shortlisted candidates are required to submit necessary documents and complete the admission formalities.

For Diploma in Animal Husbandry:

  1. Candidates must have passed Senior Secondary (10+2) or equivalent from a recognized board with the required subjects.
  2. Applications are invited, and a merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination.
  3. Selected candidates are required to complete the admission process by submitting required documents and paying the fees.

For M.V.Sc. and Ph.D. Programs:

  1. Eligible candidates must apply for the desired program when applications are invited.
  2. Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview with the committee constituted by the Dean.
  3. Merit lists are prepared for each subject based on the interview performance.
  4. Selected candidates are required to complete the admission formalities, including document submission and fee payment.

Required documents generally include:

  • Mark sheets and certificates of 10th and 12th standard
  • Bachelor's degree certificate and mark sheets (for postgraduate admissions)
  • Master's degree certificate and mark sheets (for Ph.D. admissions)
  • Entrance exam score card (for B.V.Sc. & A.H.)
  • Caste certificate (if applicable)

Degree wise Admission Process

B.V.Sc. & A.H.: Admission to the Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry program is solely based on the candidate's performance in a competitive entrance examination. The program has an intake of 80 students per year. No other merit or weightage is considered for admission to this program.

Diploma in Animal Husbandry: This program admits 50 students annually. The admission is merit-based and takes into consideration the marks obtained in the Senior Secondary (10+2) or equivalent examination. Candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, or Agriculture stream subjects with Biology as one of the optional subjects.

M.V.Sc. Programs: CVAS Bikaner offers various M.V.Sc. specializations including Animal Biotechnology, Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Veterinary Pathology, Animal Genetics and Breeding, Livestock Production and Management, among others. The intake varies for each specialization, ranging from 2 to 7 seats. Admission to these programs involves an interview process for eligible candidates.

Ph.D. Programs: The college offers doctoral programs in numerous fields such as Livestock Production and Technology, Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Veterinary Physiology, Veterinary Pathology, and more. For Ph.D. admissions, eligible candidates are interviewed by a committee constituted by the Dean of the College, which prepares merit lists for each subject.
