The Department of Computer Science was started in 1985 as a constituent college of the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram. Situated in Kariavattom, Thiruvananthapuram, this institution is an AICTE approved . The department offers variety programmes at  different levels. Department Of Computer Science, University Of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram offers total of six courses in  areas of  computer science, artificial intelligence, and engineering. Department of Computer Science has a strength of ten faculty members which create an environment necessary to achieve academic success and research exposition in computer science department.

Facilities of the campus consist of a sound Information Technology facility, air-conditioned computer laboratories batch-wise for students. The department can directly take advantage of the fact that the University is currently blanketed under a high speed wireless networking connection throughout the Kariavattom and Senate House Campuses. This connectivity aids the execution of e-governance programmes, and also ensures internet access to students as well as the faculty. The university’s Campus Library accmore than 7000 books and over 60 periodical subscriptions, to facilitate learning resources for students and scholars. Also, the library currently offers reprographic services, internet services as well as UGC- Infonet E- Journal services to enhance the research and learning services.

Department of Computer Science, University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram provides at different levels in the branch of computer science, computer science engineering and Artificial Intelligence. The institute offer total 6 programmes in full-time and part-time mode. Among those are M.Sc. in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, M.Tech in Computer Science, M.Phil In Computer Science and offered in full-time mode and Ph.D. programme in Computer Science is offered in full time and part-time mode. 

For, M.Tech Computer Science open category, Candidates are selected on the basis of their valid GATE score only. The department offers admission to non GATE candidates based on merit through a departmental level test. The M.Sc. programmes including Artificial Intelligence participants register online and the selection criteria is a combined scores of entrance test which is given equal weightage to the CGPA / marks obtained in the qualifying examination.
