The Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Arts and Sciences for Women (DSCAS). It is located in the town of Perambalur, which is located in central Tamil Nadu. It was founded in the year 1994. The college is affiliated to the to the Anna University, based also in Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu state. This affiliation, ensures approval with the UGC (University Grants Commission). These institutions are in various academic areas such as in the Arts, Sciences, Engineering, Management, Nursing, Vocational Training, Education, Teacher Training, Nursing and Medical. An MSc. may be pursued for the areas of- Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and in Computer Science. Commerce students can opt for the M. Com. The MBA and the MCA on offer here, are both certified by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). For MCA, the option of lateral entry also exists. The DSCAS is also an approved centre of the ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) for completion of the CA programmes. Many take up it alongside their B. Com or M. Com.
The M. Phil of course is a research and field- oriented course. These may be undertaken for Commerce, Tamil, Chemistry, Microbiology, Mathematics and in Biotechnology. Besides, some professional diploma courses may also be taken up. These are mainly targeted at working professionals. These are the Post Graduate Diplomas for Computer Applications and for Bioinformatics. Some certifications can also be completed here, either by the enrolled students, or even by external ones. These are in Functional English and in Tally.
The DSCAS is a signatory to a UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Education Fund) project. That is the IECD, which stands for Integrated Early Child Development. Several courses are offered at this college, as part of this convention. These are in- Photoshop, Conversational English, Herbal Cultivation, Travel & Hospitality Management, Tourism & Travel Management, Basic Computer with Internet, Bridal Makeup & Mehndi and in Flower Making & Mehndi. This college has also always always believed in providing benefits to the broader society. The students here have likewise been instilled with such value. And that is why the students here have been active participants in government schemes such as the NSS (National Service Scheme) and the NCC (National Cadet Corps).
