About Gargi College, Delhi
Gargi College was established in 1967 and it is a constituent college of the University of Delhi. It is one of the few women colleges in Delhi University. Currently the college has more than 4500 students and more than 200 teachers. Gargi College offers more than 45 courses in the UG and PG levels. There are more than 20 undergraduate courses available in the college and 3 postgraduate courses are offered by the college. Gargi College offers courses in four streams - Science, Commerce, Humanities and Education.
In the first cycle of NAAC assessment it was awarded with ‘A’ grade with a CGPA of 3.30 on a four point scale. Gargi College has been ranked 16 in the 2020 NIRF college rankings. The college has been granted the Star College status by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India consecutively for 9 years.
Gargi College provides many extracurricular activities to its students. The college has more than 20 cultural and co-scholastic societies as well as NCC and NSS. Through such extracurricular activities the college holistically develops a students personality.
The college also has a dedicated placement cell which is responsible for all matters related to internships and recruitments. The Gargi College placement cell conducts seminars and workshops for the students so that they can easily get recruited. Gargi College Facilities
Gargi College facilities include medical facilities, sports facilities, canteen, book store and many more. Such facilities and infrastructure are provided by Gargi College to the students to make their life at the college better and tension free. The medical facilities provided to the students include a medical room where a nurse is present to take care of any emergencies and also the college arranges regular medical checkups. Besides this sports facilities also come under Gargi College facilities, this includes a large sports field and professional training which is provided to the students by the college. Sports like Judo, Basketball, Volleyball, etc are present in the college.
Gargi College also has laboratories for various departments which include - Computer Science, Science, Psychology and Elementary Education. Gargi College Admissions
Gargi College admissions are offered on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination which is the class 12th board examination. The medical room provides all the medical facilities to the student and staff and a nurse is stationed in the medical room. Gargi College also offers sports facilities to the students. With the start of the year, Gargi Library started OPAC availability on Intranet. Library users can now check the availability of library resources online within the college campus. The Library is maintained with Web junction with the facility of UGC INFLIBNET and access to DU Library Catalogue. 1049 books were added during the year till February making the total of 71315 books in all. At present library has an asset of 107 CDs and subscribed to 10 newspapers, 55 journals/magazines out of which 04 have free online access. Approximately 116156 books were loaned out to borrowers, which include consultation of ref. and general sec. use and excludes the use of loose issues of periodicals and reference books during the period.
There is a large sports field in the college and professional training is provided to students. Facilities for Judo, Basketball, Volleyball and many more sports are present in Gargi College.
Computers have become an indispensably essential part of the undergraduate college curricula with the introduction of a variety of revised and restructured courses. The three computer laboratories in the college consisting of 110 computers with wi-fi connectivity provide students with an opportunity for hands-on training and enhancing their computing skills. The laboratories are also available for career- intensive education after regular class hours.
The college boasts of having its own state-of-the-art auditorium: the meridian of architectural finesse, with a seating capacity of 750 spread over the main floor and the mezzanine. The airy, spacious portico endowed with natural daylight and furnished with tables and chairs serves as a quiet place for conducting tutorial classes. The auditorium block is fully air-conditioned and equipped with solar lighting installations.
The Botany, Chemistry, Elementary Education, Microbiology, Physics, Psychology and Zoology laboratories are not only spacious and well-ventilated but also very well-equipped with various resources. Working in any of these laboratories is a pleasurable experience. There are separate research laboratories for Botany and Physics departments where research is being conducted by the faculty members.
Medical facility is available to students during college hours. There is a medical room with a trained nurse for providing basic first aid to the students. Besides, students can also get their health check-up done. Regular medical and dental check-ups are conducted in the college by qualified medical professionals.
Gargi College canteen provides various cuisines. A water harvesting system has been established in the canteen area. An additional food court has been constructed and the canteen has been renovated.
