Government Arts College Salem was established in 1879. GAC Salem is the oldest higher education institution in Salem District. From the commencement of autonomous status, the old method of examination was replaced by an alternative system with internal marks by offering UG, PG and research programmes.
Courses at Government Arts College Salem include BCA, BA, BSc, BBA, BCom, MA, MSc, MCA, MCom, MBA, MPhil and PhD. UG and PG admissions are given based on the merit of the 10+2/Bachelors degree examination.
