This article aims at presenting Government Degree College, Samba (GDC Samba) one of the most reputed colleges in Samba District of Jammu and Kashmir State in India. This affiliated college came into existence in 2005 and has been training young talent for almost two decades. GDC Samba is a big institution located on a 13.75 acre land that responds to the desire of the youth of the region by offering various undergraduate programs. The college has been accredited under National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) proving its concern towards maintaining the quality standard of college education. The total enrollment capacity of GDC Samba is 2400, while its faculty strength is only 59, which gives the students a good environment to learn in comfortably.
The general facilities of GDC Samba include the following that can make a worthwhile impact on the students’ outcome of education. The college Library which has been constructed in a new spacious hall has developed itself into a reference library with books of general interest and of different subjects ranging more than 5400 numbers along with magazines and newspapers. As for sports, there are wonderful opportunities for a student interested in sports activity and development of his/her physical abilities in the college. The institution also offers value to technological development with a sound Information Technology support and puts emphasis on developing students for the modern world. Other additional facilities include laboratory facilities for practical, Gym hall for health conscious persons, Canteen for providing refreshment to the students. The college also subsidizes the available transport services to ease the transportation of students to college depending on their current hostels from their home or from nearby destinations.
GDC Samba has a diverse and vibrant academic plan covering twenty four courses in three-degree programs. The college mainly offering full-time undergraduate course, thus giving students good grounding within their respective streams. The total student intake capacity as shown by the figures is a handsome 2,396 which goes to attest to the fact that the institution is indeed a second-chance institution. Some of the known courses are B.A., B.Com and several B.Sc courses some of which are B.Sc agriculture, B.Sc nursing etc., and all these programmes are fashioned towards meeting every students need as regards the courses he or she wants to pursue.
