Government Degree College, Shopian Facilities Details: Hostel, Campus, Infrastructure, Library, Canteen

The college has a well-established Physical Education Department which manages various sports events. Adequate facilities are available for playing Table Tennis, Hockey, Badminton, Athletics, and Gymnastics. The college has the distinction of having two cricket pitches of national repute and a football field. Physical Education Department conducts regular trekking, hiking, swimming, and mountaineering expeditions. Besides, road and cycle races are a regular feature of the sports calendar. The College Sports Board organizes the various sports activities and annual college races.

The College has library is functioning as important information and knowledge resource center, fulfilling all the academic needs of students, faculty and other staff members. All the housekeeping activities are performed in an automated environment using RFID technology. The library is equipped with modern gadgets of information technology and the latest methods/ techniques are being used for information processing, retrieval, and dissemination.

The College has inception in 1988, the college has always provided on-campus cafeteria facilities to its students and employees. Every year the canteen is given on lease for one year after following a proper tendering procedure. The ultimate aim of the canteen facility is to provide quality/fresh eatables to the students (in particular) and employees at comparatively lower rates. To ensure the maintenance of quality and discipline, the college administration (lessor) takes a written agreement/oath/undertaking from the selected contractor/lessee in a prescribed format as described in the annexures.

The college has a departmental-based laboratory facility for the students.

The college has an excellent IT Infrastructure facility for the students.

The college has an auditorium facility for events and seminars.

The college has a health center with a first aid facility for the students.

The college has a boys’ hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.

The college has a girl's hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.

The National Service Scheme ( NSS ) was introduced at this college a few years back as a part of the academic program. Since then NSS has been functioning as a regular feature in the realm of our college education. The program aims to inculcate social service in students and to provide service to society without bias. There are two National Service Scheme (NSS) units functioning in this College:
1) NSS BOYS WING
2) NSS GIRLS WING
Both the NSS Units of the college conduct various programs like creating awareness on Sanitation and Health, Anti-drug addiction drives, AIDS Awareness, Women Empowerment, Plantation & Preservation of Trees. The NSS unit also organizes blood donation camps in the college and conducts various activities on Independence Day & Republic Days. Also, the volunteers actively participate in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Besides The NSS volunteers actively assist the other units of the college during the various events and functions.

Alumni Association is an important paradigm in helping a College to realize its mission and goals. An Alumni Association is a development partner for any College, its students, and the community. Alumni relationships with the Alma Mater are lifelong affiliations fostering mutual support and growth. In the last few decades, Government Degree College Shopian has produced academicians, scientists, literary figures, leaders in different fields, entrepreneurs, managers, etc. who collectively have a wealth of knowledge and experience. The Government Degree College Shopian Alumni Association (GDCSAA) endeavors to bring all these outstanding individuals together on a single platform.

The college also provides Training and Placement opportunities for all the students.
