Government Medical College and ESIC Hospital, Coimbatore (GMCESIC), established in the year 2016, is a youngcollege. Serving as an affiliated college in Coimbatore, the city in Tamil Nadu state of India, this institution has emerged as one of a growing importance in medical education. Situated on the vast 38 acres of land the GMCESIC is authorised by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and serves a sound medical programme. At the moment, the college has a student population of 408 and is staffed by 94 committed instructors. GMCESIC offers two specialised medical programmes: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery and Master of Medicine in Emergency Medicine for undergraduates and postgraduate learners in the medical profession.
The Government Medical College boasts of making several facilities available for use in the process of enhancing learning for its students. The campus also contains boys ‘and girls ‘ hostels – all fully furnished and spacious to comfortably accommodate out-station students. A modern library plays the role of the information centre, and effective laboratories contribute to learning and experiments. Further the college has laid importance on the all round development by providing facilities for games and sports along with a finely built gymnasium. Students should note that for conventions such as academics, cultures, Leadership etc there is a large auditorium.
As far as courses are concerned GMCESIC at present offers only two full time programmes. The major stream of MBBS has an authorised admission capacity of 100 seats but the MD, with specialisation in emergency. Medical, has only five seats available. Both of them are being proposed for the aim of being as detailed as possible; Mbbs course takes 6 years while MD programme takes 3 years only. These courses are designed to enable the students gain adequate theoretical knowledge and practical practice to enable them practice in the medical filed well.
The requirements for admission into GMCESIC are merit based and has been well articulated through a standard modalities across the country. The admissions for MBBS programme are based on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) for the course. Applicants, who wish to enter this university, should pass this examination and the minimum passing mark for admission is obligatory. Likewise, for the MD in Emergency Medicine programme, students are admitted, based on their performance in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduate (NEET-PG). These entrance exams recognised all over the nation guarantee that only students with a good footing in the sciences, and a natural ability to study medicine are admitted into the college. the buildings are all old. there should be rebuilding the campus. the classrooms are also the same condition. During rainy season walls become soaky with water. desks and benches are also should be replaced with the new ones. Library is good with good facilities. The computer lab and the physiological lab is well advanced.
