Government Medical College, Machilipatnam was established in 1985 under the Government of Andhra Pradesh. It is a government-run institution focused on delivering high-quality medical education and hands-on training. GMC Machilipatnam provides an undergraduate programme, notably the MBBS, which spans five and a half years, including clinical training. The total fee for the programme is Rs 67,500 for the entire course.

A total of 150 students are accepted into the MBBS programme every year based on their NEET examination scores. Candidates who qualify must meet the NEET cutoff set by the Government Medical College Machilipatnam and participate in state or national counselling processes. The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Andhra Pradesh is the responsible body for state-level counselling which allots 85% of the total seats.
