Government Polytechnic Bilaspur is a fully state-funded institution and is affiliated with the Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekananda Technical University. The college was established in 2014 with electrical engineering as the only branch of study. But now it provides technical education in civil and mining engineering as well. Directorate of Technical Education, Chhattisgarh is the monitoring body of the Government Polytechnic Bilaspur College; like other state-funded polytechnic institutions in the state. Moreover, the institution is also approved by the All India Council for Technical Education. A pre-polytechnic test conducted by the Chhattisgarh Professional Examination Board is the gateway to gain admission to the Government Polytechnic Bilaspur courses.
