Government Zirtiri Residential Science College, Mizoram Facilities Details: Hostel, Campus, Infrastructure, Library, Canteen

The College has a First Aid Kit with SoS medicines available for students and staff. The college conducts free health camps and healthcare programs, viz. General Health check-ups, Free Eye clinic; preparing blood-type data of students in case of emergency; Blood donations programs; invited talks on health-related issues like mental health, nutrition, and body care; anti-drug/tobacco drives, etc.

The College has maintained a moderately rich stock of books, journals, magazines, and other periodicals. The open layout of rooms gives students easy access to reading materials and is backed up by the UGC Network Resource Centre with a broadband internet connection. It is computerized using INFLIBNET’s SOUL 2.0 version, and CCTVs are installed for security measures. The library also provides reprographics and lamination services at rates lower than market rates.

The College has Indoor Infrastructure: There is a small indoor facility where students can play Table Tennis, Carom, Chess, and Chinese Checkers. A Detailed Project Report has been submitted to the UGC (NERO) for establishing a new Indoor facility, which will be constructed whenever the proposal is approved. Outdoor Infrastructure: The College has easy access to a playground adjacent to the main building, which is utilized for playing Football, Cricket, Hockey, Volleyball, Athletics, etc.

The college has free access to broadband internet facilities available on the campus. DBT Biotech Hub provides state-of-the-art facilities and equipment for teaching molecular biology practicals as well as doing project work. The BCA computer lab with a networked environment is integrated with a Language Lab, which is equipped with excellent hardware and the latest language software. The Library hosts the UGC Network Resource Centre and is provided with computers with free internet access. A seminar room was established, which is provided with Computer Projectors that are used throughout the year for teaching.

The college has a clean canteen centrally located on the premises. There is an attached toilet, a kitchen area with running water, a refrigerator, ceiling fans, etc. Patronage far exceeds its capacity of 50 during breaks/ peak hours.

The College has a multipurpose auditorium with a capacity of more than 400 is used for conducting seminars, training as well as for conducting exams. While most classrooms and laboratories are being used for class seminars, there are 2 rooms equipped with LCD Projectors in the college which are specifically dedicated to conducting seminars and training for a small audience. The multipurpose auditorium has a seating capacity of more than 400.

The College Alumni Association has an interactive page on the College website where alumni can get registered and contribute suggestions by posting them on the website. Alumni members provide data on students’ progression of past pupils. This information helps in locating alumni who are available on request to render their service as ‘guest teachers’. The College is yet to receive major contributions for infrastructure development. Alumni of past pupils are also active in their endeavor to provide support whenever called for. The College has Laboratories that are small but moderately well-equipped, viz. Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Electronics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Geology, and Home Science (2 labs). Few of them are provided with computers and LCD projectors. b) Two research labs have been established that specialize in Plant Biotechnology and Radiation monitoring, respectively. c) A workable Language Lab has been established by integrating it with the BCA lab due to space constraints.
