The Gudlavalleru Engineering College (GEC) is located in the town of the same name- Gudlavalleru. This town is located in the Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh (AP) state. The district is named after the mighty Krishna river, which forms the heartbeat of the state. The college was founded in the year 1998. It has a single acre urban campus. The AANM and VVRSR Educational Society has been behind the establishment of this college. Shri Adusumilli Aswardha Narayana Murthy and Shri Vallurapalli Venkata Rama Seshadri Rao were the two founders of this society. They were noted educationists during their time. This society runs a number of educational initiatives.
The GEC has been affiliated to the Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University- Kakinada (JNTUK), also from the same state of AP. This affiliation ensures approval of the UGC (University Grants Commission). In addition, the college has also been accredited by both the NBA (National Board of Accreditation) and the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council), the latter with an A grade rating. A separate IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) has been created to this end, to ensure that all the terms of the NAAC are complied with. The technical courses here, have also been ratified by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education).
Courses are run, here at the GEC, at both the UG as well as PG levels. At the undergrad level, B. Tech programmes are available with six main specializations. These are in the engineering areas of- Civil, Mechanical, Information Technology (IT), Computer Science, Electronics & Communication and for Electrical & Electronics. At the master’s level, the courses get more technical. So, the M. Tech programmes are available for the areas of- Computer Science & Engineering, Structural Engineering, Power Electronics & Electric Drives, Embedded Systems and for Machine Design. In addition, one can also go for an MBA from here. Admissions to these programmes is via nationally or state- wise recognized entrance examinations.
Scores of the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Mains or the AP EAMCET (Andhra Pradesh Engineering Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test) are considered for admissions at the UG level. The GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) or the AP PGECET (Andhra Pradesh Post Graduate Engineering Common Entrance Test) scores are similarly considered for admissions to the M. Tech programmes at the master’s level. The APICET (Andhra Pradesh Integrated Common Entrance Test) meanwhile does the job for the MBA programme here. The entire academics at the Gudlavalleru Engineering College is run by a cohort of nine departments, each with expertise in its own area.
Six of these nine departments are for the areas in which the B. Tech degrees may be pursued in here. Another one is for the MBA programme. Yet another is English. This deals with, as the name suggests, the English language courses. The last one is the Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities. The courses on the fundamental sciences of physics, chemistry and mathematics are dealt with here. This college has also always believed in providing benefits to the broader society. The students here have likewise been instilled with such value. And that is why the students here have been active participants in government schemes such as the NSS (National Service Scheme).
Research plays a very important role in the growth and evolution of the Gudlavalleru Engineering College in Andhra Pradesh. For this purpose, several research projects have been undertaken. These have been distributed department- wise. Some of the key areas where such research has taken place includes- “Generation of Geographical Information of Maps for entire Krishna district”, “Multi input DC- DC Converter”, “Advancing an organizational Innovation”, “Bend and rebend tests on Fractured components”, “Densification of soil”, “Design and Development of Robust Control Algorithms for Inverted pendulum”, “Online Monitoring & Diagnosis of Power quality Issues”, “Aqua Monitoring System for Identification of Health of Fish and Threat Monitoring”, “Seed Selection Based on Soil”, “Rainfall Measurement using Wireless Sensor Networks” and several more.
Research assignments have also been generated by renowned third- party bodies. Some of these funding bodies have been the likes of- IEI (Institute of Engineers), UGC, CSI (Computer Society of India), British Council, DST (Department of Science and Technology), MOEF (Ministry of Environment and Forests), MOES (Ministry of Earth Sciences), MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) and some more. The college has also undertaken consultancy assignments with government and industry bodies. The GEC has also signed MOUs with a number of corporates, which help in students’ trainings. This helps the students get more employable. The TCS has accredited the GEC as a quality institution.
Similarly, Infosys, IEG- JKC, FACE, Voltech and Coign Consultants have signed up for these MOUs. Soft skills and aptitude training are also of great help before campus placements.
