Formerly called the National Institute of Design, the Indian Institute of Crafts and Design was set up in 1995 and is situated in Jaipur in Rajasthan. Since its establishment, IICD, affiliated with BPUT, has managed to create a unique identity in the field of craft & design. This institute teaches a total of 18 courses, and included in the three programmes are concentrations on soft material, hard material, fired material, fashion clothing, jewellery, crafts, and communication. IICD has a strong faculty base of 17 proficient educators, who offer one-on-one interaction with the students to give the best of their abilities.

The Indian Institute of Crafts and Design is affiliated with Vishvakarma Skills University (VSU), Jaipur. Indian Institute of Crafts and Design has a number of active facilities and infrastructures to enable it to achieve its educational function. Accommodations include standard classrooms, as well as well-equipped laboratories and workshops which enhance the practical aspect of learning. KRC is the Knowledge Resource Centre of the institute, which boasts of a vast collection of books and related study material on Indian art, crafts, design science and the related disciplines. To accommodate female students, IICD has equipped a hostel with bare minimum facilities like air-cooled rooms, a drinking water facility through an RO system and 100 % power backup. Student well-being is also valued here: the institute houses a physician, who comes in weekly, a yoga trainer and a psychologist too.

There is evidence that the academic profile of IICD is quite broad, with a rich set of educational programmes offered. Currently the institute offers 18 programmes and among them there are both undergraduate and postgraduate ones. Every course is offered full-time, so the experience a student gets will be all-encompassing.

Similar to many other learning institutions, the admission of students to IICD bears the same objective of admitting the most suitable students to its programmes. For the undergraduate course, students are given the same basis on the performance they have scored in their foundation semester as well as the potential of the students.
