The Indian Institute of Education, Shimla was established in 2002 in Shimla, once the summer capital of British India and now the capital of Himachal Pradesh, located in North India, commonly known as the Queen of Hills & Tourist's Paradise. IIE Shimla is Affiliated with HPU Shimla, Recognised by NCR, NCTE New Delhi.

It is bordered by Mandi and Kullu to the north, Kinnaur to the east, Uttarakhand state to the southeast and Solan and Sirmaur to the south. The altitude of the city ranges from 300 to 2200 meters. The educational institutions of this cosmopolitan centre attract students not only from India but also from neighbouring countries.

The IIE Shimla had a humble beginning in 2002 by introducing B.Ed and Arts and Crafts courses for women. The Institute has made many advancements by adding new IIE Shimla courses like JPT, BCA, BBA, and BSc. (Hans) Biotechnology, M.Sc. Microbiology, M.Sc. Biotechnology, M.Sc. Chemistry, LL.B (3 years) and M.Ed. courses in relatively small amounts over five years.

IIE Shimla fees for B.Ed is INR 84,000 and for D.El.Ed, the fee will be as prescribed by the H.P. Board of School Education. The IIE Shimla Placement Cell has always been a hub of innovative activity and continues to seek opportunities for collaboration with industry and other academic institutions worldwide.

IIE Shimla facilities include a Hostel for Girls, Transportation, Smart Classroom, Wi-Fi Campus, Language Laboratory, Spacious Campus, Modern Computer Laboratory, Modern Cafeteria, etc.
