Institute for Design of Electrical Measuring Instruments—IDEMI was founded in 1969 in Mumbai. It is a government-run institution, and its objective is to achieve self-reliance in the growth of indigenous industries. Located in Chunabhatti, Sion, this AICTE-approved institute offers 3 diploma programmes in specialised fields. It tries to enhance productivity and quality control in areas that cover electrical and electronics, process control instrumentation, mechanical engineering, and information technology. The Institute carries out learning of focused nature rather than general nature and maintains a faculty strength of 23 for their pursuit of technical education. The seriousness of IDEMI towards enhancing education based on the industry can be judged by the type of courses they offer, viz. Diploma in Three D Animation and Graphics, Diploma in Tool and Die Making, and Diploma in Robotics and Mechatronics. 

Institute for Design of Electrical Measuring Instrument, Mumbai has several facilities to support the student's academic and practical learning. Being a part of a good institute library, the library comprises many books related to the subject, journals, and periodicals, along with an e-resource in terms of e-books and online journals. This gives students the opportunity to use the library as a complete research store. The IT infrastructure at IDEMI is also quite sound, with facilities for high-speed internet connectivity and well-equipped computer labs with the latest hardware and software. Such facilities are quite essential for students working on technical studies and research activity. The institute also supports modern labs, well equipped with the latest state-of-the-art equipment that will help students gain hands-on experience and provide an opportunity to reinforce practical skills through different R&D projects.

Presently, it houses the following: three fulltime diploma courses of 3 years duration each. An IDEMI cafeteria with all modern services to make available a variety of hygienic foods, thus giving convenience and comfort to the students. Sub-total of these courses goes up to 150 students, of which 60 are available in the Diploma in Three D Animation and Graphics as well as in the Diploma in Tool and Die Making. However, there are 30 seats available in the Diploma in Robotics and Mechatronics. The courses aim at imparting industry-specific skills and knowledge to the students so that they can be fruitfully employed in the future.

The admission procedure in IDEMI Mumbai is intended to identify suitable and motivated candidates. Prospective students also have to fulfill the course-specific eligibility. Generally, an entrance test or an aptitude test is conducted after the process of application, and students are finally called for further steps, like personal interview. So the institute can thoroughly judge the academic and personal traits in a holistic manner.
