Bachelor of Arts – Bachelor of Legislative Law (BA LLB) is a five-year undergraduate degree in the field of law, which candidates can pursue right after completing their school education. BA LLB is one of the most sought-after law programmes in India and is offered by several law colleges and national law universities. The curriculum under BA LLB includes the subjects of Bachelor of Arts along with the common law subjects.
As the name suggests, the full form of BA LLB is Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Legislative Law and is a mix of BA and LLB degrees. Interestingly, students who complete the BA LLB are offered dual degrees, namely, a Bachelor of Arts degree and the other one is LLB degree. The advantage of BA LLB lies in the fact that BA LLB provides two degrees within five years. In general, if a student completes his BA degree and then goes for an LLB degree, he will have to give 6 years to get these two degrees, but with a BA LLB, one can easily save a year.
Eligibility Criteria
- An applicant who has completed Per-university course or senior secondary school course (“+2″) or equivalent such as (11+1,” A” level in senior school leaving certificate course ) from a recognized university of India or outside or from senior secondary board as equivalent, constituted or recognized by the union or by the state government or from any equivalent institution from a foreign country recognized by the government of that country for issue of qualifying certificate on successful completion of the course, may apply for and be admitted into the course.
- Provided that applicants who have obtained a +2 higher secondary pass certificate or a first-degree certificate after pursuing studies in the distance or correspondence method shall also be considered eligible for admission to the course.
- Provided further that the applicants who have obtained 10+2 or graduation or post-graduation through the open universities system directly without having any basic qualification for prosecuting such studies are not eligible for admission to the course.
Admission Details
Admission to the course shall be made strictly based on merit, taking into accountthe total marks obtained in the qualifying examination.
