MSE is very well located with access to the market place, local train station etc. It has a good college life. Professors are better than most others institutions running PG courses in the country. Elliot's beach is a nice chillout place which is located within 3km from the college. You get used to the mess food gradually. Hostel facilities are below standard according to me considering the amount they charge for the same. Placements are good with the average lying around 7-8 lakhs.

Madras School of Economics is one of the best colleges for Economics in India. They have got very good courses on Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Descriptive and Inferential Statistics, Calculus, Financial Engineering, Risk Management, Time Series, Stochastic Calculus, Neural Networks. These courses provide a strong foundation for the people who aspire to be a part of Analytics Industry. Not only that, you will we working on Projects on platforms like STATA and R. As compared to DSE, i would say, MSE is a cheatsheet. You get enough time, so if you start working hard on brushing up your concepts and at the same time learning R or Python, learn some basic Machine Learning, take up few data science competition from Analytics Vidhya, Kaggle or Hacker's Rank, you have strong chances of getting placed. Coming to the curriculum, it is not exactly as that of any Data Analytics course, but this will surely help you in data science. Comparing to some Analytics courses in India, e.g. Praxis Business School course on Analytics, you won't get much of support from MSE, you will have to work on your own. I think 2 years in MSE are enough to get started in Analytics. Placements are undoubtedly best, Compare to Praxis or some other business school, ROI is fair enough. My suggestions for future aspirants would be to focus more on Data Analytics, be good at Optimization, Econometrics, Time Series Forecasting, Learn R or Python, Do some machine learning courses online. Must work on real data projects. Be in touch with Analytics community on Analytics Vidhya.

Madras School of Economics, is a postgraduate teaching and research institute in Economics, located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Established by Dr. Raja Chelliah a prominent economist of his time and headed by Dr. C. Rangarajan , former governor, Reserve Bank of India, this institute is a perfect blend of providing enough opportunities for the academicians as well as students inclined towards the corporate sector. Life at MSE is much more than just attending lectures and preparing projects, the hostel life and the environment is conducive enough to encourage studies as well as the involvement in all types of extra curricular activities. It's a home away from home where we celebrate all festivals ranging from Onam to Deepavali. Its in here where you find people from different cultures blending together thus giving out a message of Unity in diversity. The hostels are pretty decent with and well maintained , the mess serves food which is mostly South Indian but is hygienic and tasty, with special menu on occasions and festivals. The college premises has an easy accessibility of all the essentials of day to day life with good restaurants and outlets nearby. The college offers 5 distinct courses in the field of Economics itself and is ranked as number 5th in the post graduation colleges in economics in India in terms oF studies and 3rd in terms of placements, with banks life Citibank and companies like Accenture, Jp morgan chase recruiting in good numbers with good packages. Overall the work environment is conducive, the faculty is supportive and the pattern is worth it.
