Newton College of Education, located in Nagapattinam District, came into existence in the year 2008 with a handful of courses to build the future of education. This co-educational college is in Tamil Nadu, India and covers 3.35 acres of land to help train future educators. Being an affiliated college, it has approval from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) in the field of teacher education. The college currently has 290 students in its rolls and a teaching staff of 25, which takes care of maintaining a student-faculty ratio that is ideal for students’ individual attention. Today, Newton College of Education offers only two education-specific courses in order to offer detailed teacher training.

The college is affiliated with Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University (TNTEU), Chennai, and approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Newon College of Education provides a smooth education curriculum with only two full-time courses, which are in education. 100 students are admitted into B.Ed programme and 50 students are offered a place in the M.Ed programme. Each programme takes two years to complete and offers an advanced background in theory and practice of education. For the combined intakes, the college's total enrolment of students is 290 to ensure that they do not overcrowd students in a classroom. The programmes themselves are intended to provide students with the educational competencies and instructional knowledge that will enable them to become effective teachers and educational managers or administrators.

Newton College of Education has developed strict criteria that dictate the selection of candidates for its education programmes. In regard to the B.Ed programme, eligibility depends on the marks achieved in the previous examination. The college may also use other methods for selecting the students according to the management’s policy for candidate selection, to have numerous approaches. The selection process of M. Ed programme is a comparatively rigorous one where the knowledge of the candidate in the B.Ed course, aptitude, general intelligence/ reasoning, group awareness of current events and Communication skills are tested. This approach also ensures a long-lasting approach to staffing is used, which will see to it that only the right candidates with the right aptitude and passion for education are selected. 

The college offers admission to post-graduates for the B.Ed. degree and the graduates for the B.Ed degree holders for the M.Ed.
