Rajiv Gandhi Memorial College of Education, Kathua, came into existence in 2003 and is recognised by the government of Jammu and Kashmir and affiliated to the University of Jammu. This co-educational affiliated college aims at producing future educators through its effective programmes offered. Certified by NAAC, the college shows concern towards quality education among students. Located on two acres of land, it has a total of 361 students and 21 faculty members. Two degrees offered by the institute are related to the field of education to meet both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in terms of training teachers and educational leaders.

The college offers several amenities with a view of supporting the learning needs of their learners. A rich library has a collection of over 2700 books, texts and reference books and also different subscriptions to magazines and journals. Hostel facilities for male students: The college provides rented hostel accommodation for female students with spacious, ventilated rooms, attached bathrooms & modern facilities. The campus includes a large canteen and a hall for the holding of wide-spectrum activities, including workshops and seminars, as well as a seminar room. Sports lovers have available to them a hall that can support badminton, volleyball, table tennis, and even Kho-Kho. There is also employee health emphasised within the college, which has a part-time doctor and full-time medical specialists on campus with a first-aid medical facility.

Rajiv Gandhi Memorial College of Education offers two full-time courses. Two-year duration courses – Bachelors of Education and Masters of Education [M. Ed]. These programmes are intended for the training of competent teachers and educational administrators.

The Joseph Rajiv Gandhi Memorial College of Education actually follows a calculated mark system where the admission is given according to the marks scored in the qualifying examination as well as/instead of the entrance examination. With regard to the B.Ed programme, admission is given in accordance with the policy provided by the state government/union territory and the university.
