SDP College of Teacher Education, Tihu, was established in 1994 and is one of the leading teacher training colleges situated in Tihu Town, Nalbari, Assam. . Situated on an extensive area of 7 acres, it has recognised the college from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) of teacher education. 

SDP College of Teacher Education, Tihu is a co-educational college affiliated with Gauhati University. SDP College of Teacher Education, Tihu provides an appropriate student-teacher ratio for education learners. SDP College of Teacher Education has several facilities that aim at improving the performance of the students. SDP College of Teacher Education also has well stocked library with textbooks, reference books, national and international journals, and periodicals stocked in a well-catalogised manner. The IT infrastructure of the SDP College of Teacher Education supports modern education delivered at the college. The SDP College of Teacher Education Tihu campus provide computer laboratory web-based resources for teaching and learning process. SDP College of Teacher Education offers two programmes that includes  B.Ed and D.EI.Ed courses Both are two-year full-time courses intended to prepare students for professional teaching practice at an appropriate school. The seat intake for B.Ed programme has been approved for 100 students and 50 students for the D.El.Ed programme. These programmes as well integrate reading with practice the knowledge one gains to make a graduate ready for facing classroom challenges.

The admission requirements at SDP College of Teacher Education are competitive, and applicants are enrolled on a merit basis. To pursue B.Ed., the candidates are required to sit for Gauhati University common entrance tests. This entrance test is used to prepare a rank list of the candidates in order to come up with the merit list. Likewise, even for the D.Ed. course, the candidate is supposed to appear for the Common Entrance Test. However, candidates have to apply individually to the college after qualifying for the screening test. The last decision to take is, therefore, premised on the results presented by the applicant in the entrance assessment.
