Sharirik Shikshan Mahavidyalaya, Kolhapur set up in 1990 is an affiliated college for the stream of physical education. It is affiliated to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University and is situated at Wadipeer, Kolhapur, Maharashtra and the total area of campus is an extent of 3 acres. The college is duly recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) to uphold standard education in physical education. At the college level, the institutional class strength is fifty students and the faculty strength of five, hence, the college provides a conducive atmosphere for training physical education professionals.

Sharirik Shikshan Mahavidyalaya is well endowed with a variety of tools that appropriately suit the college in fulfilling the requirements of the physical education programme. Sports freaks have a treasure trove that would range from a 200-meter athletic track, gymnastic bar and apparatus for judo, wrestling, hockey, kabaddi, kho-kho lawn tennis, handball, table tennis and softball. It has a good number of books, magazines, journals and audio-visual aids, that are as per norms set by NCTE. The college offers several laboratory amenities for example a science laboratory, a psychology lab, an education technology, and a media lab with appropriate software and hardware. Student amenities include health where a Health centre provides first aid facilities. The college also boasts of very good information technology to enhance the college’s digital learning and research. The college is affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

B.S.M focuses on programmes dealing with physical education where its main programme is the Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed). This course takes two years full time with an approved admission capacity of fifty students as a way of observing the student-teacher ratio at the college. 

The admission criteria for the B.P.Ed programme at the institution is in compliance with NCTE norms and the Government of Maharashtra. Those who are aspiring for admission should have passed the degree examination from this University or any other University which is established/recognised by the U.G.C.
