Sonkar College, Mungeli, which was established in 2016, is situated in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. This private undergraduate college occupies an area of 4.85 acres and has a diverse academic portfolio. Overall 192 students are taken in by Sonkar College at present and 12 faculty members are there at college. It has been approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), which defines the quality standards for its teacher education programme. Sonkar College currently offers four undergraduate programmes for students who wish to pursue Bachelors degree in Arts,Science Commerce and Education respectively. 

Sonkar College provides a number of strategic infrastructures specifically developed towards improving the students’ experience as well as assisting their learning activities. It is a learning resource centre that helps the students in their studies by offering the needed information. A place on the campus known as auditorium is used for occasion and seminars in order to support a joyful college life. The college also has well equipped laboratory especially for the students in the field of science most especially when attending practicals. A cafeteria on the compound serves as a dining and relaxation hall for the members of staff and students. Accepting modern educational technologies, Sonkar College has interesting IT facilities. In a similar manner, the college ensures that it affords the students a health status by having a health centre with First Aid facilities. 

The college is affiliated with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur, and is recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) for its B.Ed. programme. Sonkar College teaches four full time undergraduate courses thus ensuring that the institution produces competent and professional oriented students in different fields. All the programmes offered have a capacity of taking in a total of 50 students per batch for the BA and the B.Sc programmes with 50 students for the B.Ed programme as well. The B.Com programme is also offered. All these programmes are supposed to take three years but for the B.Ed programme, it is a two year programme. The opportunities provided for student enable them to select a programme that best suits their specialty and desired careers. 

At Sonkar College, all students are granted admittance based on different programmes of their preference. For students of the B.Ed programme, the admission will primarily be on merit that will include marks in the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination. The college implements the selection policies governing the state government, Union Territory administration, and the university. It is also probable that admission into other programmes being offered by the Kakamega Polytechnic such as the BA, B.Sc, and B.Com also admission is on merit as well.
