Spintronic Technology and Advance Research (STAR) started its journey in the year 2009, mainly as an engineering institute situated in Bhubaneswar, Odisha state. This is a college affiliated with IIT Bhubaneswar spread over 15 acres of land and adds technical education and research facilities. STAR is recognised by AICTE with a total admitted student number of 1,039 supported by faculty and staff of 82 members. In total, there are 7 courses offered by the institute at two levels of degree specialising in engineering fields.

STAR aims at delivering students an all-encompassing learning solution. There are well-equipped laboratories, a fully computerised library with a stock of more than 18,000 books and DELNET facilities for enhanced learning. The students are learning in an IT advanced environment; the university enjoys a centralised Wi-Fi network for ease of information sharing and access. The college also lays emphasis on the all-round development of students through the provision of sports facilities, including a gym and many clubs. There are shared hostel amenities for students, male and female, in close proximity to the institution for students who seek to be accommodated.

The institute provides conventional engineering studies that include diploma and undergraduate level. The current curriculum of STAR ranges from 5 B.Tech programmes to 2 diploma courses, all of which address the current needs of the market. The B.Tech programmes offered comprise Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering and Electrical & Electronics Engineering. Moreover, the institute provides diploma courses too in mechanical and civil engineering. These full-time courses offered are designed to equip students with both theoretical concepts as well as the practical experience to match those theories.

The admission procedure at STAR is mainly criterion-based, relying on the scores obtained in national & state aptitude tests. For admissions in B.Tech programmes the institute accepts scores of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) and Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE). Also for the international students, the Duolingo English Test or the DET, is also accepted. The particular admission process of every course is planned to be regulated as per the norm framed by the BPUT and the SCTE&VT of Odisha State.
