St. Thomas College of Teacher Education, Thodupuzha, was set up back in the year 2005 with the aim of preparing educators for tomorrow. This co-educational college is situated in Mylacompu, Thodupuzha of Idukki district in Kerala and it offers postgraduate programmes in teacher education alone. It works in association with Mahatma Gandhi University and is recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The campus is squarely and expansively situated on a piece of land size 6.942 acres, which would improve learning environment on the campus. It provides a good number of students for 214 with total faculty strength of 28 such that there is enough student-teacher ratio required to give undivided attention to every student for quality education.

The college has various service that has been put in place inclusively to improve the learning environment of students. The rich resourced library supports 4700 plus books on subject wise, 500 reference books, 195 encyclopedias and 11 dictionaries, journal magazine and newspapers subscriptions also. Concerning practical activities, St. Thomas College of Teacher Education provides a social science laboratory and science laboratory equipped with necessary apparatus and teaching aids. It also values technology improvement with an equipped computer laboratory and internet connection and the latest SPSS software for data analysis. Students may gain access to sports and games facilities, gymnasium and separate hostel facilities for boys and girls students. There is also a health centre, a canteen as well as an auditorium to facilitate general event or a seminar among others.

St. Thomas College of Teacher Education offers two full-time courses. The college offers two programmes, the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and a Master of Education (M.Ed). The B.Ed programme has a sanctioned strength of one hundred students and the M.Ed programme has a total of fifty students. These two-year courses offer valuable applicable and theoretical knowledge in education. The total student intake recognised to the college now is 214, this it has made sure that the college does accommodate large number of students in a class level to improve understanding.

Admission policy of St. Thomas College of Teacher Education is highly competitive and is in consonance with the policy framed by AICTE, Mahatma Gandhi University and the Government of Kerala. For B.Ed, pass criteria is through the entrance examination though candidates marks/percentage in qualifying examination are considered. The M.Ed programme also take into account of marks secured in the qualifying test, may include an entrance test or other test based on the norms set by state government or university respectively. The college operates an official admission calendar although the specifics may differ from one year to another. All scholarship information provided by the college are general in nature.
