Subbaiah Institute of Dental Sciences, Shimoga, started from 2014, is one of the top most dental colleges situated in Karnataka, India. Located on a 5 acre plot of land, this affiliated college has already made a successful niche for itself in the dental education. The institute provides various dental courses comprising of 10 programmes at 2 different levels of study for undergraduate as well as postgraduate level. The student enrolment is 412 students in total and faculty strength of 205, thereby providing optimum student-teacher interaction for individual attention as well as an efficient teaching-learning process. 

Subbaiah Institute of Dental Sciences is equipped with several unique structures that aim at increasing the chances of learning and development with the students who study at the institute. The main component of academic resources is the Central Library of 29,428sq.ft. The library dispenses more than 5488 books on dentistry including text and references. The computers installed in the digital library are 50, and the electronic-based resources include CDs and DVDs on different medical fields. Current students have access to 125 dental journals of which 90 are Indian and 35 are International publications. This facility is fully equipped laboratories and museums to allow students practical handling and observation of a broad array of dental specimens. Thus, for the comprehensive development of students, the institute has arranged sports amenities having space and a physical teacher to follow through interacting of different games and inter college sports competition.

10 programmes are offered at Subbaiah Institute of Dental Sciences to meet the different career options within the dental related field. The BDS is one of the most sought after programmes of the institute offering one hundred direct intake seats for a full time course. At the postgraduate level, the institute offers nine specialised MDS programmes with a course duration of three years and limited number of intakes. Some of these specialised MDS programmes are Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge, Periodontology, Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Oral Medicine & Radiology, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology & Oral Microbiology, Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics and Public Health Dentistry. The approved intake capacity for all the courses together is 122 and therefore the dental profession in the state has every reason to encourage more students to enrol for the courses offered by the institution.

The admission process of Subbaiah Institute of Dental Sciences is aimed at identifying and enrolling high potential students to dental courses. To enrol with BDS programme, the admissions are normally through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). Candidates who wish to join any of the institutions must write and pass NEET examination with the minimum set cut off marks. In the same way, as for the MDS programmes, it takes the NEET MDS (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for MDS) scores.
