Unit 1 - Introduction to Warehouses
Unit 2 - Types of Warehouses
- An introduction to the five primary classifications of warehouses follows in unit two, along with the functions, objectives and potential advantages of each respectively.
- The challenges associated with private warehousing are also examined, along with a series of factors to consider when determining the ideal location for a new warehouse facility.
Unit 3 - Functions of Warehouses
- The primary functions of the warehouse are examined in the third unit, alongside the concepts of semi-permanent storage and ‘information transfer’ in warehousing.
- The importance of carrying sufficient buffer or safety stock is also examined, along with the growing popularity of the cross-docking warehousing model for retail businesses in general.
Unit 4 - Warehouse Operations & Systems
- Centralised and decentralised warehousing operations are then outlined and explored, along with their defining characteristics, advantages and disadvantages.
