18 MonthsThe M.S by Research programme is designed to be substantially different from the M.Tech. programme in its admission process, its emphasis on research over courses, and its relative flexibility of programme duration. A student must carry out research and submit a thesis as a graduation requirement. The maximum duration for fulfilling requirements of this program is 3 years, but the program is designed to incentivize high quality R&D by allowing students whose R&D work is exceptional to graduate early, in as little as 1.5 years.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates with First class or 60% (55% marks for SC/ST) marks in
(i). B.E./B.Tech./AMIE or equivalent in any engineering discipline. OR
(ii). M.Sc. or equivalent in any science discipline. OR
(iii). MCA (with undergraduate B.Sc. degree in Physics & Mathematics or BCA) or equivalent
Valid GATE score (CS) is required for all applicants except those having B.Tech. Degree in CS/CSE from IITs with CGPA/CPI of 8.00 (on 0-10 scale) or above
Admissions into the M.S. programme will be in TA/TAP and RAP categories. The TA/TAP and RAP stipends will be the same as for M. Tech. For both the categories, stipends will be given for a maximum of 36 months or until thesis submission, whichever is earlier
Admission Details
First, you apply for the MS programme using the same form as for MTech, but select the box where you are asked if you wish to apply for the MS programme in CSE.
The admission process is identical for the TA and RAP positions for the MS by Research Program. The list of project funded RAP positions will be put up on the CSE website closer to the date of interviews.
Based on GATE scores, we will shortlist some number of candidates for a written test and an interview
