Admission Process

Admission to this courses is done by Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) Examination – JEE Advanced at All India level.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidates should satisfy at least one of the following two criteria for admission to IITs:

    (1) Must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks in the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PwD candidates should be at least 65%.

    (2) Must be within the category-wise top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) board examination.

  • The percentile calculation will be done for the required subjects in a single academic year only. Therefore, candidates appearing for improvement in Board examinations can EITHER appear in one or more subjects and secure 75% aggregate marks (65% for SC, ST and PwD) after improvement, OR, appear for improvement in ALL subjects to be in top 20 percentile (see section titled “Regarding the cut-off marks for the top 20 percentile”) of the corresponding academic year.

  • The marks scored in the following five subjects will be considered for calculating the aggregate marks and the cut-off marks for fulfilling the top 20 percentile criterion. i. Physics ii. Chemistry iii. Mathematics iv. A language (if the candidate has taken more than one language, then the language with the higher marks will be considered)

  • Any subject other than the above four (the subject with the highest marks will be considered).

  • For calculation of the total marks for five subjects, if the marks awarded in a subject is NOT out of 100, then the marks will be scaled (up or down) to 100 so that the total aggregate marks is out of 500.

  • If a Board awards only letter grades without providing an equivalent percentage of marks on the grade sheet, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the Board specifying the equivalent marks and submit it at the time of acceptance of the allocated seat. In case such a certificate is not provided, the decision taken by the Joint Implementation Committee of JEE (Advanced) 2019 will be final.

  • In case any of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Language are not evaluated in the final year (e.g., in a 3-year diploma course), then the marks for the same subject from the previous year/s will be used for calculating percentage of aggregate marks.

  •  For candidates who appeared in the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination for the first time in 2018 and reappeared in ALL subjects (for whatsoever reason) in 2019, the best of the two performances will be considered.

  • If a Board gives aggregate marks considering both Class XI and Class XII examinations (in the 10+2 system), then only Class XII marks will be considered. If a Board gives aggregate marks considering the results of all three years of a 3- year diploma or courses of equivalent duration, then only the marks scored in the final year will be considered. Similarly, for Boards which follow a semester system, the marks scored in the final two semesters will be considerer.

  • If a Board does not give marks scored in individual subjects but gives only the aggregate marks, then the aggregate marks given by the Board will be considered as such.

Student Reviews

IIT(ISM) at its best.

Batch of 2018 | B.Tech Electrical Engineering
The Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) has one of the cleanest campuses among all the IIT’s. The classrooms are quite above average. Labs are well maintained, apparatus available most of the times, and LAN and wifi connectivity ensures facilities quite up to the mark. Students of the campus feel lucky to have Asia’s number no.1 library, it has books of all the possible courses in abundance, internet facilities, air conditioners, etc . Guess that’s what you ONLY do at IIT, STUDY!

Batch of 2018 | B.Tech Electrical Engineering
IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is recently granted the IIT status making it one of the three pre-existing colleges to granted IIT status. The college campus is spread across more than 400 acres of land. It offers Bachelors degree in 18 disciplines along with Masters, Doctorate and Management degree. The faculties are extremely competent and ready to help you. Being an IIT college the placement scenario is really good and its going to improve by leaps and bounds in upcoming years owing to its newly granted IIT tag.

Batch of 2018 | B.Tech Electrical Engineering
Our college is a beautiful campus with highly qualified teachers that provides a platform for the all-round development of students studying there and also provides good salary jobs. Our college campus is the only campus which has its own beach. Students can get refreshed and rejuvenated by visiting sea beaches with friends and juniors and our club members keep carrying out meetings and group discussions.

Batch of 2018 | B.Tech Electrical Engineering
one of the premier institutes in the country. If you are interested in the circuital branch, then this is the best place in terms of their placement and higher studies. Placement in this branch is almost as same as other good IITs. Branch placement is average. A bulk of companies also come for other branches with average to good salary packages. Infrastructure is fabulous, with its own private sea beach. There are lots of extracurricular activities and interactive clubs in the campus.

Batch of 2019 | B.Tech Electrical Engineering
ISM, now IIT Dhanbad has a wide variety to offer in terms of B.Tech courses and diversity of students. The infrastructure is the only isuue, being years old but other than that the faculty and and student fraternity is one its kind. It is a huge campus and we have a lot of clubs and extra-curricular activity. The city is not very great to explore but this place has its own legacy and culture with which you will fall in love! Overall its a great college and one of the best in the country for engineering and I'm living an awesome college life with my friends out here at IIT Dhanbad
