It is not essential to join IISc, IISER, ISI to pursue research in the field of Mathematics, be it or any other. You can obviously go for research by pursuing Doctorate degree in top universities like Banaras Hindu University, Delhi University, Jamia Milia Islamia or any other. There is no restriction as such.

Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata takes admission into its courses by conducting it's own entrance test called as ISI exam.
Sorry to say but there is no section that comprises of questions from topics of logical reasoning. All parts of the exams mainly consists of questions from mathematics and related subjects.

Dear aspirant,
There is no criteria regarding number of attempt and age for appearing in ISI test for undergraduate courses. To get eligible for ISI Admission exam you must have a 3 year Bachelor's degree in Economics/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Physics, or a B Stat degree from ISI, or a BE/ B Tech degree or any other qualification considered equivalent (such as AMIE). Candidates will have to appear for the written tests and subsequent interview.

ISI exam is the entrance test conducted by Indian Statistical institute for courses like B.Stat, B.Math and M.tech. The eligibility criteria for ISI B.Math and B.Stat is same that is the candidate must have cleared class 12th and should have passed english and Mathematics. At ug level, B.stat and B.Maths both have really good career opportunities.

You have to give ISI Entrance exam in order to get into ISI for either BStat or BMath.The exam is held in almost all popular states Of India.It is considered as one of the toughest exams in India and quite an in depth knowledge is required to crack the exams.
