Just like many of my friends in this very same department and University,I came here with financial obligation on my back, love for Economics in the heart and Bigger dreams in life. " Economics is not a subject,it is the way of life. Be it any field from Medicine to Engineering or Acting or environment, everything is dependent on it's corresponding economical feasibility. It is a way a household manage his resources"- said my professor in the introductory meeting on Economics. This I have practically experienced and I have managed to save and found ways to earn. This is the only subject where one can create their own internships. This department looks silent not dumb, leaving scope for one to grow up on their own. The rich class of faculty plus the super rich alumni whom we meet every Year is a blessing to it's students. No matter one shall see an best ,infact a dominant contender to many elite Universities in the country in the near future. The University is going to get back it's legacy.

My rating for hostel should not be thought otherwise as I am a local student, I don't stay in hostel. So I can't opine on that. My thoughts regarding the University's and department's amenities are highly similar to what my friends have expressed. To avoid plagiarism, I'll be brief. I have done my 12 STD in a corporate school with Economics subject as major. I have cleared my Chartered accountancy Common Proficiency exam in my first attempt.Soon I have been searching for bigger dreams on Economics without giving up my CA next level preparations. This department has met my requirements and I could finish my Economics classes by afternoon and continue my Chartered accountancy preparations. Also I availed admission to b.com in school of distance education, Andhra University. By three years I would all the three subjects expertise. Moreover I still find time to explore myself or pursue a hobby. What else can one expect. I won't copy, but this is a slogan we all say. "It's all about what we make". Though the placements, etc are considered as a fallback,I say that one must get placed by their talent, not under the mirage of the University.

From the many colleges,I have applied for I missed admission for not having A1 grades but the Universities are also aren't A1. I had to pay in lakhs per annum to get admission for my B2 grades. Then the this department respected my passion and interest for studies. Apart from academics I had scope to get skills in communication, stenography, National Social Service and many more within the college. I have the freedom to choose the multiple career paths after the Course. I can enroll in commerce, management, statistics, English/linguistics for Master's in the University itself. Or pursue Economics Master's in any Universities in the country, maybe even Delhi University. Campus is a decent location. Professors are highly qualified, but few in numbers. Hostel isn't to be expected much. Placements depend on one's interests. Exposure is likely to incline in the future. Students crowd is regulated as only 30 members per class. Poor farmer family background students are more in number so it's highly affordable. More over happy College life.

Let me Express my ocean of happiness first. The nature friendly peaceful campus, affordable hostel facility and pressure Free academics. You find lot of time to explore all dimensions within us. You can always make access to the library and being an University you can network with many people from different departments and do start ups. Companies like RINL (vizag steel),HPCL,and newly inaugurated Fintech towers fetch many internships in industrial and financial Economics. Recent mou's with Eastern Naval Command springs new hopes for the University students opportunities. With lots of hustle and bustle throughout the year students engage in many activities and participate in interesting seminars. The department offers it's services to state government financial and economical decisions for which students are given chance to opine publicly. For example, there was an seminar conducted for students to opine or suggestions to make Andhra Pradesh 2digit State (double digit GSDP) last year on the eve of Krishna pushkarams. An active debate over the pros and cons of implementation of Goods and Services Tax. Suggestions on Union Budget etc. Academically, here what we make out is more important rather what you get.

Ever since I have been in the University, I always have no feeling of fear for my choice in getting admission to this department. This is a highly recommended site for pursuing our interests . I hail from a land labourer family. No one in my family could attend University. I came up here with a motive of being an civil servant. There is an Bay of Bengal one one side and the Almighty Simhachalam Hills on the other side with the ocean of opportunities in the University. My dream has become affordable and there is free coaching given here for civil aspirants by the professors who charge thousands of rupees at the private coaching institution outside the University. A university student is expected to shine through their own efforts with some expert guidance from professors which is readily available. What else one wants more apart from good environment, orientation, resources, pressure Free academics and freedom to pursue our interests. Think over,it all depends on us.

Economics is regarded as the Royal subject world wide. Andhra University has a royal legacy of their achievements. It's great alumni are highly esteemed in the country and the state. They include RBI governor, Chief Minister, Planning Commission members, politicians,High courts and Supreme Court Judges, Superintendent of police and in many group 1 services. The department is the oldest in the country for Economics. Every Year the Alumni meet engages students with the rich knowledge and about things that are happening in contemporary. With these current affairs, the professors intelligibly relates to the subjects. For example, the post effects of demonetization on National Income is one monthly assignment to the students. Similarly, the analysis of tax slabs on various goods leading to inflation post the implementation of Goods and Services Tax. Things go in interesting dialogue rather than monologue. I didn't beat the bush in my review as my friends have opined everything about the department. Finally if one who is self learning and self motivated and ready work without spoon-feeding can avail the best resources within the campus and prosper.

Apart from what my friends opined in their reviews,I would like to acknowledge the resources available to us within and outside our department. Both material and knowledge resources are plenty. Being a student from poor farmer family background, I felt myself as an financial burden to my family. But here there are ocean of opportunities for us to grow career wise as well as make ourselves economically feasible to meet our needs. This growing smart City gives us variety of part time jobs to pursue as per our interest. Be it tutoring, catering at KFC,or maybe at star hotels in visakhapatnam like gateway, green park, Novotel, etc or even work at HSBC with English fluency. Apart from that the academics are not spoon feed. This is the reason why it appears to be less academically inclined. The biggest library in the South Asia is here in Andhra University. The Central library has the rich collection of journals, periodicals and many more material archived. The government exams material is also available in latest material. The atmosphere throughout the University is very peaceful and environment friendly. It's highly enthusiastic students are seen working constantly in and around the 500 metres radius from the library. They get their chairs and pad combo and settle themselves in the lush green foliage within the library, enhancing the study mood immensely. People here are self sustainable and hence you find zero involvement by the University in placements affairs.

With tough entrance exams all over the country, the department of economics, Andhra University sets an example for the theme" Education for Everyone". Irrespective of age, high scoring mark sheets, economical or social background everyone can afford for this course. There's no entrance exam for this course. On based on merit of board exams scores one is given admission. Poor people cannot afford quality education and sometimes it may take many years for them to get an opportunity to study at an University. The University, like a mother suckles all her children who were deprived of education in many ways. Right from scholarship to resources, it's an best bet. Recently,it got good rank in MHRD ranking. In future,it Will be the best in the country.

I have been trying to sort an college in Andhra Pradesh for Economics graduation. To my surprise I could find the University in Andhra Pradesh which is India's first established school of Economics in late 1930 s. It's a great opportunity for a student like me who hailed from an village and studied in Telugu medium. The University education made me self sustainable and provided me the industry ready soft skills. The exposure I got here in 1 year is incredible. I could find billions of opportunities apart from academics. Yes, the present situation is not up to the mark, but the sprouting developments in the city visakhapatnam to a smart City would bring unpredictable surprises in the future.

Though the department offers a full fledged course satisfied by UGC norms,it adds no credit to the competition in present scenario. It is better to decide early whether to take admission for pressure free academics and work to achieve government jobs post completion of the degree or choose some other course that suits our interest. The department has specialisations in public Economics and rural Economics which is also conducted for namesake or ooze out the government pressure on them by forwarding the task to PhD students as a project. The State government funding grew the pay scale of the University professors in lakhs were the senior most earns a pension of 80000. But the quality prosper in squalor. The University offers a membership to the Central library and high speed internet and wifi to all it's students who apply through application form available at institution. The department has foreign students from Zimbabwe, Kenya, Maldives who find the University education affordable. The exposure to fests in the University has to be claimed with own personal interest. The department is the oldest in the country with 80 year legacy with many people like ,former RBI governor. But the University education is mainly focused on the state government projects and lacks Universal exposure. it lacks access to internships and students exchange programs within the country. But the University is ranking in 2017 by MHRD leaves one astonished. The hostel facility isn't questioned much by students but the mess food quality startled them many times in the past. Huge mass strikes and protests by students are common in the University. Political interference is highly enthusiastic about involving students as objects for their goals. The decommissioned elections for students in the University, reduced the tensions within the campus. The University effect impacts the department.

Infrastructure:With a 100 metres from the Siripuram junction we'll see the main gate of the iconic E shaped building (can be noticed from terrace of the building). The department has a sound alumni including Mr Duvvuri Subba Rao, former RBI governor. The library within the department too is outdated except for the few journals like Econometrica and Economic times. College Life: The academics here are a mere photocopies of the academics of those times without updation. This make the students deprive the industry ready knowledge. So students seek interest in gaining a governmental job post completion of their degrees. The college life is a leisure where the Net attendance ratio of students+teacher<=15% per year, while the shortage in attendance is compensated through condonation fee. Faculty:The faculties in this department are highly professional and are well distinguished in the state or country but are few in number as many of them got retired or Left for the civil services. This cut shorts the expertise menu of the department. Placements:Though it's legacy boasts for success, the present scenario especially in number of placements is dull.Zero placements occur in the campus. Students are interested in the namesake degree which the college fetch and self study to get a job. Fee's: Since it is a self financed course, it's fee is 10800 rupees per annum and students are eligible for fee reimbursement cutting the fee to 1857 rupees per annum. Hostels:There are four to five hostels but the Nagarjuna Hostel which is located at 70 metres from the department is best among the bad Lord's as the University hostels are poorly maintained. There is no proper vigilance except at food mess. The hostel rooms are filled with 7 to 8 members per room where the rooms are meant for 2 or 3 students at most. The remaining people are outsiders or close relatives of the students. People opt this course for this hostel facility, low fee, access library resources(Central library),easily earned degree. If one seeks a sound career in Economics then it's not a right place. P.S The recreational facilities offered by the department is the leisurely held classes which motivates one to bunk classes and watch movies in inox Central ,inox Varun beach, jagadamba or even give a visit to RK beach which is around 2 km distance from the department . Students can even catch RTC bus at the door step of the department to the most exotic rushikonda beach.
