Aurka there is no eligibility criteria for minimum years of work experience in any of the IIMs. Work experience is one of the parameters involved in making your aggregate score with some weightage generally around 5-10% in every IIM. Only eligibility criteria to appear in CAT exam is to have more than 50 percent of marks in 10th, 12th and graduation all the three exams. After that in order to get a call for the second round of GD and interview from IIM Calcutta, you need to atleast have 99.7+ percentile in CAT exam.

But getting percentile only is not sufficient as the merit list is based on the aggregate score which is based on different parameters such as CAT marks, 10th, 12th and graduation percentage, work experience, engineer or non-engineer, gender etc. whose weightage vary according to different colleges. So, you need to have an overall strong profile along with high percentile to get a call for the second round. After that, a new merit list is made including the marks obtained in WAT and interview. In this final merit list generally, Interview marks, CAT marks and WAT marks have the highest weightage and is used to offer admission to the college.

Feel free to ask if you have any more queries. All the best!!

Ofvourse it is CAT, Its conducted and prepared by IIM which is the top managment school in our country.Apart from it most of the managment institutions will accept CAT.

However,If you are planning to study abroad GMAT is essential. GMAT is also widely accepted throughout the country but when its compared to CAT . CAT is importrant.

Whoa!!! Well I think you should should buy a SIM CARD and go for IIN :P

Jokes apart... You cannot crack by gobbling down anything - neither maths not vocab... Having a good/great vocab is just an enabler, hardly 1-2 direct questions based on vocab in CAT

CAT and GMAT are acronyms forCommon Admission TestandGraduate Management Aptitude Testrespectively. Now choosing one among these is definitely the matter of your choice. Both of them have excellent attributes individually and far more standardized than any other management tests. To make your choices simpler lets distinguish between them,GMAT vs CAT.

CAT-If you are an Indian resident, Then this is every management students dream to crack this examination and get into IIMs. If not IIM, many other prestigious colleges accept the CAT score as well. You will get good exposure and have a brand name of IIM attached to your resume. This is valid for a year.

GMAT-This is a foreign fantasy of every individual. Wish to study in a foreign land as well have the benefits of studying in a good college, then GMAT is for you. It has more money, more experience and more fun to be honest. This is valid for 5 years.

No matter how dreamy GMAT might seem, most of the students aim for CAT mainly because of these two reasons:

Too far from their hometown, you might have more than boundaries and seas separately you from your motherland.

Obviously Expensive, Unless you manage to get a scholarship.

If you got a lot of potential backed by a good amount of money as well as ready to explore beyond your country then GMAT can be your choice. If you are really determined then you can go for fellowship options as well.

On the other hand, CAT gives you amazing opportunities and you might not have a foreign country experience but you can groom your skills for much less money from an esteemed college.

Apart from these,

If you meet with any kind of unfortunate incident on the day of the examination then you lose your chance to give the CAT exam but GMAT acts as a savior in such unpredictable circumstances. GMAT can be given 5 times a year wheres CAT can be given only once a year.

The application form for GMAT is higher than that of CAT.

CAT and GMAT are like the two sides of the coin, equally prestigious with different aspects.GMAT is expensive no doubt but it is totally worth it if you got the right attitude and determination. Plus there is an advantage of being dedicated because money acts as a motivational factor.

Consider the factors and your ambitions before choosing because no matter what you choose, It is a life-altering decision.

Hello Chinthalapudi,

Dear student,

Hello Amol,

If you wanna study abroad the steps to be followed must be in a sequence,such as;

1.First search for the business schools abroad where you would like to study

2.Check the deadlines for the business courses. Usually they have more than one round of deadlines. The US usually recommend international students to apply in the first or second round itself so that they have enough time for VISA application.

3. Eligibility sould be checked. Most of the universities in USA require the applicant to have a minimum 16 years of education before applying for MBA.

4. GMAT or GRE should be undertaken. GMAT score is very essential for admission abroad,it is valid for 5 years. A person cannot appear for more than 5 GMAT exams within a 12 month period.

5. Most US univerities seek for work experience for entry into their MBA programmes.

6. Interview is one of the most important rounds for admission. These are conducted by invitation only. The Universities invites the students after evaluation of their GMAT or GRE scores.

7. After all this the offer letter if sent to the deserving candidate.

GMAT is administered throughout the year so there are no specific GMAT test dates . The test takers can choose any GMAT test date according to their preference.

I hope i have cleared all your doubts and hope it was helpful:)

All the best for your future.

Thank you.
